Just switched from a 13t to a 15t, the difference is night and day, climbing power is so much better. The thing is like a rocket.

Now the issues/questions

Anybody running this setup with a align 35 esc w/ gov
What throttle are you using, I am at 80 right now (I don't have a tach)
With the higher headspeed I now have more tail wag

align 420 3200kv motor
align 35g esc
tp 2100
trex xl hde
futaba 7c

Thanks dudes!!!!

You can get 2650rpm with the 13T, what do you think your headspeed will be with the 15T!
Do the maths.....

really that high with a 13t?

I was running 92 for throttle and the thing was really sluggish. It would be falling and I would hammer on the pitch and the thing would bounce off the ground.

15t seems to give it more pitch power

Rough calc....

Volts * KV / maingear * pinion

10 *3200 /150 * 13 = 2773rpm

10 *3200 /150 * 15 = 3200rpm

Lol... the Align motor run freaken hot already with a 13tooth... and you put a 15tooth on it... Did you touch the motor after fly? Gezzz...

The motor should burn up anytime.

If i got $, I will run my T-rex on 10s lithium.

I ran 420LF with heatsink on both 13T & 15T and I could touch the motor indefinitely after 10min of flight

Would it be true that running a 15t pinion would allow you to keep the same headspeed at a lower throttle setting (using a govener), then the govener would have more "high" throttle points to use to maintain headspeed. Therefore less bog with big pitch changes.

Just a curious thought,

and isn't "easier" for the motor to keep that headspeed with the larger pinion?

Its true that the governer would have more high end power to use, but I dunno if it can handle the high headspeed... Anyone else use the 420LF with a 15 tooth pinion?? I run the 420LF with the Align 35a ESC, and TP2100 gen 2's... 12C continuous... mine gets pretty darn warm after a 10 minute flight... 160 - 180 deg...

But Honey, I can't live with just stock.....

I'm using the 420LF with a cc35, and TP2100. I just got it set up this past weekend and flew it 3 times. After 10 minutes the motor is barely warm. The battery is warm but definately not hot. I didn't tach it yet but i think my headspeed is a little low. I set up the throttle through the ESC and i'm pushing mid 90's on my TX. I was also thinking of switching to the larger pinion.

I started using mid timing for my esc last week, the battery was noticably cooler from low timing. That was with the 13t though.
