On Gazelles we do them to ground every week!

Now im on Lynx we do powered full flare recovery, if you think its because we are weak hearted come and have a go sometime. You would soon change your mind!!

Probably dont want to fatigue it, its a damned good helicopter so why shorten its airframe life if you dont have to, the vids I've seen of the army practicing autos all the way down would seem to put a lot of stress on the UC

Lynx Auto
The Lynx comes down at about 4000ft a min!!

On Gazelles the patter was flare, check, level.

If you do that on a lynx you are dead
We start the flare from about a 150ft We then hold the flare until the tail rotor is just above the ground and the level the heli with forward cyclic, only then do you use collective to cushion the touchdown.

We practice them in the simulator to ground all the time but its deemed to dangerous realtime. (lynx)
