Kinda stupid question but someone asked me and I didn't know.

I did a search and found this:

1 HP = 746 WATTS

AMPS x VOLTAGE x EFFICIENCY
------------------------------------------------ = H.P.
746

So, how much HP does my Mega 16/15/3 make with TP2100 3S batteries?

Thanks for any replies!

Here's the easy way .

http://www.trextuning.com/mega16153.php
The recorded maximum values for the duration of the test were the following:

19.1 amps
12.6 volts
192 watts
0.648 amp hours
6.9 watts/hour
192 / 746 = 0.26 horsepower

edit:

Or if you want to stick to your equation:

((19.1 amps)(12.6 volts)(I have no idea...let's just say .8)) / 746 = .26 horsepower

I think that your calculations are in error (a 3S setup cannot supply the 12.6 volts that you used in your calculations)

Why couldn't a 3S setup provide 12.6 volts? Each cell is capable of 4.2 volts unloaded maximum. 4.2 * 3 = 12.6V.

I'm sure the 12.6 volt number was with no load on the battery, which makes it completely possible.

If you want accurate number, I think you should use the rated voltage, not the full charge voltage idle. Better to use voltage under load.

If i got $, I will run my T-rex on 10s lithium.

Just knock about 10% off the .26 hp number.

From the trextuning numbers you only need (measured) peak watts. The peak volts and peak amps were almost certainly not present at the same point in time. Mike is right -- at load, 3S batteries will drop to around 11.1v - 11.4v.

The "efficiency" can be calculated from the motor's stats, and for the Mega 16/15/3 I think its about 85-90% ... so 1/4hp per pound is about right. Just shy of the power-to-weight ratio of a 600cc supersport motorcycle :-P (120hp / 600lbs)
