With ANY helicopter, ANY governor, you don't need a tach, if you can get a helicopter flying nice, you tweak the governor until it mirrors the same speed. If you NEED the tach function, this reviewer feels you're not ready for a governor!

I disagree, Al. My Evo flies great at 2250RPM. I know because I accidently flipped into Idle 2 once that I hadn't set up, and that's what it went to. Man did it fly great. However, those speeds on the head can't be doing any good, so I backed it down. Without a tach, I may have stayed at that setting until the heli blew up. I'd bet it flies even better at 3000RPM, and if I were to use your method, I'd be putting life and limb on the line as I'd just keep cranking it up until something gave.

Most of the good flyers I know, would spot that headspeed in a minute. Again, with experience, you know the feel of a good running machine. I've never had a nitro machine that felt "good" at anything over two grand.

All this sounds alittle snubbish. Sorry if I took the quote wrong or not but truth is alot of people flying don't have the advantage of flying with other Heli pilots and are learning on their own and don't know how good a heli can fly. Or even yet what the hell they are supposed to sound like in the first place. Hell my heli seems fine as low as 1500 or as high 2100. Yes the different flight styles dictate what head speed is best. Low is fun hovering and high for 3d but the thing is at some point and time taching and KNOWING what it's running at is needed. I thought that when I was flying at 2100 it was cool. But after learning what my headspeed was I dropped it down as I am using the stock plastic head. There are probably some great pilots out there flying the wrong head speed right now just because they are flying on thier own. And to say they are not ready for a governor just because they'd like to have the Tach feature seems alittle elitist. Also I might have misunderstood the way you used "Need"

Yes , you took it the wrong way. The point is: if you are flying a helicopter without a governor now, and want to add a governor, you don't "NEED" a tach, to use the governor.

Crazy huh, have you tried the RevMax with the throttle curve flatlined? I run full power at the top and the bottom of my aerobatic flight modes. If I'm setting up a machine to do FAI rolls my throttle curves are flatlined anyway, with or without a gov. If the Revmax fails, trust me, you can hear it, load up the heli and flip out of the flatlined curve into a conventional curve. If a gov fails and you haven't set a backup curve the chances are that you may crash a machine depending on what attitude you are in. I see a very minor risk here.
Ok let me get this straight.

With revmax, you guys have a mode (ex. idle2) and run that sucker like a govenor at 100% at all 5 points? How smooth does the revmax keep flying this way? Is the revmax really that accurate on holding back rpm?

Whats the difference with doing this with the revmax and without the revmax maby running ex. 80% on all 5 points on the hyper.

Could someone mind explaining, its kinda unclear to me.

thanks

Jamie, if you run no governor and 80%, then you will never have more than 80% throttle. Yes the RevMax works that well, and yes, IDLE-Up is at 100% throttle all the time. The RevMax does the rest.

Jamie, The pizza is decent, I've never had a Garbage plate, but many famous people have come here just for one. The golf courses are great also. One stop on the LPGA tour is here at Oak Hill, one of the finest courses around.

Agree with Al....

Pizza is great and the "famous" garbage plate from Nick Tahou's is superb !!!!!

Ton of Golf courses. One slight correction though, the yearly LPGA is played at Locust Hill Country Club, not at Oak Hill....... Oak Hill has hosted a few PGA US Opens.....

Nevertheless, yes, there are a TON of golf courses in all price ranges in the Rochester and surrounding areas.....

I was actually thinking one day moving to rochester, NY because the cost of living is alot lower than living here in hampton roads.
Plus sounds like there might be alot of big fields to fly on.

LOL Jamie; the snow isn't the problem, it's the dark at 4pm, dark clouds during the "daylight" hours, and the 20-30mph winds that cut flying this time of year...

I'd give up pizza for some Virginia weather right now!
(garbage plates do rock, taken in moderation :c)

Oh, and the housing cost is relatively low because the jobs are leaving, but most everything else is too much!

Yea, virginia weather is nice sometimes, except for these days. Cold, cold. No snow though. I would like to live in florida thats where the warmth is.

I cant wait for the spring time warmth and daylight times.
