I got my Blade last night and when I bought it I told the salesdrone that I was going to be using 3S 1320's with it and that I wanted to buy the aero kit as well for the heatsinks and 9T pinion. He told me that it wasn't necessary, that the heatsinks were all I needed, so I just bought those. I did a little searching last night and it looks like an 8T or 9T is recommended for 3S lipo, and the stock 10T is NOT recommended.

Am I ok with the 10T on 3S? Or (as I'm now guessing) was the salesguy wrong, and I'm going to burn something up? If so, should I get an 8T pinion or a 9T pinion, and can I buy just the pinion and replace the one I have or do I need to get a new motor?

Iyhave been flying rthe Thunder 1320's with the stock setuip and have had great duration and no problems with either the 4 in 1 unit or the main/tail motors.

I did switch one of mine BACK to the stock redux unit for the tail, and it is smoother and noticeably quietr,

not sure what all the DD fuss is about,,,,,,

I have been flying/crashing my BCP for a couple months now, most of it while using 3S LiPo's. I've always used the recommended 9-tooth pinion, and have only had to replace motors when the brushes wear out (both main and tail). Nothing has ever burned up. Still using the original 4-in-1. HH claims to have done a lot of testing to back up their recommendations. I suppose you could always choose to ignore that and conduct your own testing, but I figure that since it's their product, their business, and their reputation, they probably know what they're talking about.

I would get the AEK anyway. You can always use the spare blades, you'll have the right pinion motor, and you can double-up both the tail and main heat sinks for better cooling. I use GWS heat sinks because they cover much more of the motor can. And I modified the e-flite main motor sink to fit above the GWS sink w/o covering the vent holes. So now I have the entire motor covered by heat sink.

Just recently converted over to DD tail to get better tail authority (which it does!). And I like the sound better than the gear drive tail.

Brent.

i have been using the stock motor and a 3cell lipo, for about a month, and everything is flying great. maybe i am lucky. i get my blade up about 100 feet and start a dive and i get a blade stall, thats about it. i am running a heat sink on the main motor and 2 heat sinks on the tail motor.

10 tooth pinion
I have been flying with the 10 tooth with symetrical blades without a problem, inverted also is not a problem, the faster head speed is nice but as usual you will draw more amps and have a little less run time. 3 cell 1320's is what I use.

I did the main gear mod (replaced it with a hummingbird auto-rotation maingear) and found that the 10T pinion is already pretty far out on the shaft; the 9T however has sort of an extension that goes farther up the shaft towards the motor. The new maingear sits farther down from the frame, so with the 9T I could pull it out enough to line up. The 10T would have been close to or completely off the shaft.
