ok guys i have finnally got my grubby little hands on it ! after a couple of weeks of waiting and some converstions with customs i have a3dmp-e

i have got it nearly assembled (second hand model)
im useing a futabarp149dp reciver (yes i know that jan uses a smaller on but its all i have)
this fits in the radio box but im not really keen on useing such a small battery for the radio gear.
wher else has anyone mounted a standard battery ?

some pics please......

should i use a 401 gyro or go the 601 ?? as i have a spare one here if i use the 601 which brand of tail mount do i get ??

the lipo batterys..

ok so the battery has these multi wire conectors coming of it and i have two cell balancers (look like a circut board in between two peices of carbon fibre plate with a female fitting to match the lipo one,do i plug both of these cell balacers onto the battery and charger it ?
do i use the cell balancers every charge ?

what should i do to check these batterys before i do anything else with them ?

ok i have schultz 330 charger can someone please explain (in plain english) how i use this charger and what settings i need to use (tell me really slow as im new to lipos) step by step would be great.

is there anything that is suspect on these helis (its secondhand)
that i should check before flying ?

how tight should the belt be ? like the raptors ?

anything else i need to know ?

also i have a whatts meter on its way which i beleive will tell me how much battery power i have used so i can determine my flight times , have i got that right ??

Thanks For your help and as many pics as possible would be great

you can send pics to me at

Hi Dale, you can use a bigger battery pack if you wish. here're a couple of solutions I have used:
1: use a standard Nicd-Nimh and mount it like this:

2: Get a duralite battery and mount it like this (also works with a Nicd/nimh) and put the regulator where the battery is mounted on the above pic:

As for the gyro the 401 will work well with the voltz servo but should you decide to use a standard servo or put a 601 in it like I did you can use a Quick Uk Raptor 90 tail servo mount:

and put the control box this way:

What batteries do you have? from your description I think they're the flight power 10s5p. Should this be the case you have to charge them as 10s at no more than 4A. Anyway your 330 will not go above 2.8-3 A wich is a good charge rate and should make your batteries last longer

The belt is about the only part of this model to look after: make sure it's tight and that it runs smooth. Pay attention that it doesn't ride over the pulley.

Anyway I have more pics in my gallery if you want to see it.

Have fun with the new Beast!
bye
Iacopo

thanks for that i see from your pics that the tail push rod runs underneath the boom mine is running over the top can i have a pic of you tail please

also do the voltz servos cope with 6v ? or just 4.8v ?

i have a scott grey regulator and a smaller lipo to power it from one of my old nitro helis that i could use.

what about these cell balancers how do i use them?

thanks Dale

My tail pushrod is running underneath the tail boom because I used the raptor 90 servo mount and orizontal fin mount. If you don't use the orizontal fin mount you can set it up on the upper side of the tail boom no problem.
All the pics that I have of the model are actually in my gallery.
I'm not sure about the 6v. I use the duralite regulator at 5.1v. Anyway I guess if it's 6v regulated it shouldn't be a problem but if you want to try it do it on your own risk
I have no experience with you balancers as I use Thunder power batteries but they should work automatically when you plug them to the battery. There should be 10 leds that will light at the same time if the battery is balanced. If the don't then your battery is out of balance.
Anyway maby a fellow who use these balancers can give a better explanation?

Yes Volz servos will support 6 Volt. But remeber this is a elec. heli and you want to keep it as light as you can
I would get the $11.00 4 cell pack that Jan recomends and put it the heli togather as recomended by Jan. fly it for a while then make these changes, you may find out that you like it.

I have been flying a 3DMP for a long time now, (close to 400 flights on one of mine) I have tried the 601 gyro, yes it will work, but the 401 will work very well as long as you manage the colective correctly. It flys much better with the lower weight

I have 4 lipo packs and two are hitting around the 125 to 150 mark
As for lipos I have only use Thunder Power 10s 2ps and as long as you treat them good and us a good charger like the schulze you will not
have a balancing problem until you get up to the 100 to 150 flight mark

I hope this helps and if there is anything else you need please let us know
David

I have both 10s2p and 10s4p packs from TP

Charlie (TP) built the 4p's for me to see if they worked better then the 2p's and if there life cycle was longer. I only have about 40 cycles on them this far, so I can't tell you if their better on the life cycle yet

The 4p's will be more money because of the extra cost of cells and labor. I will find out the price
The only difference is the 4p's seem to hold the power in a long hard pull but it is so close that I am not sure it is worth the extra cost.

You are correct in that the "P" means parrellel on the lipo pack

I hope that helps, if not please let me know and I will try again
David
