OK I’m going to try the Toki 40 in my Hawk Sport in the next week. After flying it with the CF blades for the last 2 weeks and finding that they are great, I’m going with the engine upgrade (I’ve already mounted it in the Hawk). I also found out that the engine problems I was having are not the fault of the Toki. I mounted it on a motor test stand and ran it. It was fine after I got the needles set right. 4 turns out on the low end and 4 turns out on the high end got me to a good starting point. After running it for about five minutes it was still cool to the touch. Amazing!!! It was the throttle servo on the Raptor that it was mounted in. It was intermittently glitching. I still haven’t found out what’s making it glitch, but that’s for another day. I’ve also added the red dampers to the Hawk head and I have noticed that the head response is considerably better. I now just have to just start going in on the fly bar weights and seeing where it feels good to me. I’m still looking for a faster response on the head, but I don’t want to go overboard. The Hawk at this point is flying great!!! I hope it’ll be even better after the engine upgrade.

PZ, sounds great. Glad to hear that Toki is working well for you. I think you'll find that it delivers a lot of power.

With respect to the head, I have some 3D paddles on mine, took of the weights. It makes a LARGE difference. (as per my earlier post, went inverted in a roll without even knowing it). Once I rebuild I plan to fly that way again - with the responsive head, not inverted landing

Got Money? Send it to me, I'm a Heli Addict.

Same here...

Love the combo! Runs great for me...

20 flights now (2 gallons) and only one flameout. Fuel line pickup problem and not the motor.

Open the low end needle till the head is just slightly out of the assembly and start there. Needs to gurgle on the idle......

Tune the high end in a wide open throttle climbout with ~14 degrees of pitch if using the 550s. Smoke trail should stay consistent. Not to cloudy, not to lean!

VERY reliable motor with gobs of power. NOT your 30 and just not quite your 50 either. Just right for Hawk Sport. Gives great flight time too!

Oh, I run 30 size MP2 "Quiet".

How did you know what to say?!!! I just came in from testing the Hawk/Toki combo and it's doing great right now. Started with the needles at 4 turns out and found it to be a little rich at that point and not much power. Turned them in 1/2 turn each and it came alive. Nice throttle response. Checked the back plate on the motor and found it to be a little hot (2-3 seconds is all I could get) so I turned them both back up a 1/4 turn. Low end is doing fine as it drops back to idle instantly and the high end is still showing plenty of smoke. I may try going a little richer on the high end again this weekend when I go to the flying field. I'll give it the full throttle punch out and see what happens. I've only got +10 degrees in the mains at this time. I guess this weekend will tell how much more I'll need to dial in. It lifts off just before half throttle and I'd guess it's turning about 1650 rpm's. It's not screaming but it has a nice head speed. I'm running the Toki pipe on mine. What head speed do you run your's at? Do you have the thrust bearing upgrade in your's?

BTW, the engine and fan ducting are fairly tight. Did you trim any of your's back anywhere? I've left mine as is until I'm told otherwise.

I need to move the flybar weights in and see how far I need to move them to gain some more cyclic. It's now getting a little slow even for me. I've turned up the rates on it and added 10-20% on the ATV. It's helped a little but I can see I'm going to need to get rid of the flybar weights.

I am running 4 1/4 turns out on the high end, and about the same on the bottom. My toki 40 is using the toki pipe and coolpower 30% heli. So far the back plate is "quite warm" but not at all "Hot". This should be where it should be right?
