Use my method. I tried a dial indicator but when you turn the shaft by hand or whatever it knocks it out. Just chuck it up and touch something to the end of the hub on a perfectly round part and spin it like 2k. You will know if its out.

I had the same issue with my Evo. What main blades are you using? I had a set of new TT carbons on mine and it would vibrate like mad. Tried a different set of blades and the problem was gone. Ended up returning them to Ace for another set.

Good luck,
Mike

Chris... as the shop teacer used to say to the guy in the machine tool class..." fellas, you must have rigidity...." In other words you have to have both the indicator and the test piece mounted solid and then turn them with something that makes a constant, smooth revolution. If you just clamp it in a vise and turn it by hand it'll drive you nuts and never give you a good reading.

I pulled the hub and gave it a good look and can't find anything. I guess the only way for me to know for sure is to replace it and see what happens.

Angelob gave me a call tonight and we talked through some other options and I found the slide block and see saw arms were loose so I tightened them and gave it a shot but still have the shake. I thought I found the problem because at first it was smooth as glass, so I went in and turned the needle 2 clicks to the lean side, ( yes 2 clicks only!!!) and when I brought it up too a hover there was the shake just as bad as before. I ran out of daylight to try anything else but I did bring it in and changed it back to the original dampers. I'll give that a try tomorrow night and let y'all know how it goes. One thing at a time and I know I'll find it sooner or later!!

Mark.... I did balance the blades but not the head as of yet. I started to, but got busy with some other projects and I don't have much daylight to work with when I get home in the eve. Hopefully I'll get the chance to work with it some tonight.

Well, I got to try it with the original dampers and it made no difference so I gave the head balancing a shot and everything I tried just made things worse and more constant so I came to the conclusion that that's not the problem. My next step is to change the hub, If that doesn't fix it then it's time for a new heli!!!!

FOUND IT!!
I tried a couple other things and finally chaged the bearings on the main shaft and when I was putting the main blades back on I noticed the wrench wobble. At first I thought the wrench was just loose in the bolt head but upon further inspection I realized the bolts were bent! Hardly at all, but enough! I replaced them and tried it out today and no more shake no matter what headspeed!! Finally!!
