Is that small rubber valve the check valve that goes between the engine backplate and the main tank ?

I would have thought so but not 100% sure.

Where does the muffler exhaust pressure go or is the tank pressurised soley off the back plate?

The muffler pressure is not used - plugged it with M4 bolt. You get tank pressure from the backplate (after removing the pump).
Hoorah, no more nasty exhaust fumes to eat my clunk lines.
Think I might give James a ring to be absolutely sure about this little valve thingy.

Good stuff - I'm gonna try and get through to James today to order a carb for my Freya. No big bore or Viper head, just the carb, cline and conversion.

Push the valve into the pressure line about 25mm from the pressure fitting. The black part goes toward the tank and the brass faces the pressure fitting.

I don't use the elbow myself but you can CA it to the reg if you want.

When you say pressure fitting, do you mean the nipple on the back plate ?

Oh yes, and how long do these valves last ?

I think he does, that's where the pressure comes from. Guess its a "pulse" but pressurises the tank due to the one way valve, kinda acts like a bicycle pump till the tank reaches the maximum pressure of the crankcase.

Splendid. All is now clear.
Just got to swap out my bearings and get it all back together. I had new ceramics in just a few months ago and the front bearing feels rough. In light of the new goodies the engine is getting, I may as well start with new bearings too

Don't know, haven't worn one out yet.

Damn and blast, my spare set of ceramics don't fit the crank, especially the rear bearing.
Got any ideas where I can get ceramics in the UK

PM Desertsky, he used to be in the UK, he may have an outlet here or know of somewhere.

Not to worry, I ordered a set of standard bearings from Skyline. I must say, I'm not impressed with those ceramics if they're already getting rough. They've only had a few gallons through them, then what with my new spare set not fitting the crank. Seems like I was sold duds.

I just spoke with James and ordered a carb and cline...should ship middle of next week latest as they're out right now but expecting a shipment soon.

It'll be v interesting to see if the engine is smoother and how it goes with the 970 pipe.

Guy,

What shim(s) were fitted as standard to the 91PS, and what have you fitted with the ViperHead?

My standard head had 0.008. The viper head came with an 0.008 and 0.004. The paperwork recommended 2 x 0.008 when running 30% so I used the old one and new one. Unfortunately, I haven't yet had the chance to run it let alone install it as I'm waiting for a new fan hub. Should be able to fly Sunday.

Thanks - my engine is blowing plugs quite quickly so I think I may need an extra 4 thou shim, but I'll wait for the cline/carb before I try things again.

Enya #4 plug - I had a plug come out, then the new one I put in lasted about 3-4 flights. It was working fine one flight but then the filament must have broken since it wouldn't glow when trying to start it.

I'm not confident I have the mixture setup well acoss the throttle range, hence the wait for the new carb.

Flew my 90 today. That engine is the dogs gonads. Very very smooth, awesome power and not too bad on fuel inspite of running rich. My 90SE has not yet been stripped of excess weight, but it feels like it has the power to weight ratio of a 50 size with a Hyper. I certainly feel very confident in the engine not quitting on me now it has the Viperhead. It will also be interesting over time seeing how the clunk lines do due to the fuel system being pressurised by the crank pressure rather than those nasty corrosive exhaust gasses. I also suspect this may have been the reason why the engine ate its last set of bearings which I havo also just replaced, so the engine really is new except for the piston and liner and crank which seemed in perfect nik.
It will be interesting learning how to tune this carb setup as it's my first venture into a 3 needle carb let alone a cline. I currently have the low needle at 12 oclock, the mid is just over 3/4.and the high needle a tad over 1.5 which gives a head temp of about 75 degrees. I usually look for a head temp of about 93 ish degrees so I suppose the high would be about 1 turn. Just wonder how much time should be spent running in. I only gave it 3 flights today, perhaps its run in, afterall its only the shims being seated..
