Sounds like you're heading in the right direction at least. Today would be a good day to test the holding power of the 401.

What time should I meet you at the field?

Dan,

Great place to shop. She is about 60-70 miles away from you maybe a little less. You still be better off ordering because of the price gas unless you are working nearby.

Hows that tiger holding up? I got my buddy here Atlas321 to get one also.

the Tiger is good, been sitting for months since I've been busy working and the free time I do have has been spent selling stuff on the side.

I used to live down the street from GS and I did get them to initially carry the Tiger 50. However, I was dissapointed when Indy decided to drop the line because I had mentioned to her, in person, that it wasn't a bad idea to inform customers about the merits of dialing in their clutch hubs.

Well, she didn't realize that helis should require this and that that was too complicated for her customers. So, a week or so later she dumped the Tiger line. Meanwhile, as some of you know, she carries Raptors & Evos, both with similar clutch designs to the Tiger.

Also, her resident repair guy tried to have a brief conversational debate with me on how the Tiger was just like a JR machine. The guy had never seen a Tiger 50 in person until I brought my own machine in the door.

Just adds to my dislike for the majority of hobby shops. They just want to make money, have little to no knowledge on how the stuff they sell works, goes together or how to improve it.

Ignorance just pisses me off. I know not all hobby shop employees/owners are as ignorant, uninformed or scared about telling their customers that aside from a kit, engine, radio and fuel that they also need some specialized building tools to really get the most out of their purchase, but it was blatantly apparent to me that GS is one of those shops.

Dan,

We were there yesterday and they carry the Tiger .50 but no parts.

All NJ shops that I have been to are only experts in Cars & Trucks. It's very hard for them to adapt to Heli world as we all know they are the most complex RC out there and require a great deal of knowledge and skill. Also I know of couple hobby stores that will NOT get involved in Heli's because of liability etc....

I agree with you on the money making part but thats what they are in buisness for which by the way is getting very hard for them to keep thier doors open because of the internet web sales. If you look at RCPOWERSUPPLY, HELIKRAFT etc no US retail or web based store can compete with thier prices on parts.

Hobby shops are not a goldmine buisness and I respect the owners who are still trying to make a go at but to be honest PIZZA owners make more money at the end of the day then the hobby shop guy

When I started doing this heli thing last year in March 2005 I had nobody help me even searched around but could not find anybody who had the skills of JK or Alan or even the 10 year old Kyle Stacy seems all of NJ is dominating in airplanes, cars & Trucks and I was ok with that because now 1 year later I have learned quite a bit regarding building and flying and I think thats what a hobby is all about. Now I have asked numerous questions here on RR which has been also a tremdous help but that does not compare to having a mentor or flying with people who are at your level or above.

Within our little group we have all learned quite a bit from eachother and we have a ball even when we crash Come and join us one day you will have fun.

From what I understand, she's not going to carry the Tiger anymore. Once she's sold out of what she has there, that's it.

.. and the shops who carry Helis should be more aware of what they're selling and how to build, fly, etc with them because that HELPS the customers, like you who have to go out on there own and hope to find someone who does know what the hell they're doing.

I met the guy who taught me by chance on RCU by my selling a Altech P-51D Mustang kit. He came up, we talked for an hour, I got into helis, he taught me how to hover and then he moved 460 miles away =\

None of the hobby shops around here, only one, who carry helis know crap about the finer details of setting them up or flying them.

RunRyder and a select few other sites ARE my hobby shop and flight club. Unfortunately, this is what its come to.

One day, when I can take a trip up your way and it's warm out, we'll go flying. I have Thursdays and Sundays off.

That's great!!! I get to play with the Tiger again but this time with SAB'S.

Shawn & I were out there for a little bit today. Amazing how the weather has been.

It's amazing when I first started at that small field I thought "MY GOD IS THIS FIELD BIG" Shawn and I ran out room very quickly and that's with the 50's. Still lots fun though!!!!

Looks as MR. GASSER will be attending also tomrrow. I got mix up some camper fuel.

Is the Vertol coming tomrrow? How about bringing the Trex also?

The Vertol is in various stages of dis and re assembly. The Trex can make an appearance as well as the T-Hawk foamy. I may have to look at a potential job in Hoboken on Saturday. If so then my arrival will depend on when I get back from there.

looks as though Rupert will try to make it on Sunday. I'm hoping that Steve (Swattley) and Perry (E30TECH) will make it down either on Saturday or Sunday.

What about you Pete (Ace Dude), will you be dropping by?

A great day at the field!
It was a good day for flying! Too bad Shawn arrived just as the 30 MPH wind did.

Good flying Joe! I'm feeling a little left behind. Time for more SIM practice.

Here's a little evidence of one of my low fast turns getting a little lower than planned. Believe it or not my Freya skids dug these two trenches and didn't crash!

Never... ever... take photos while at the field!!!!
This is right up there with "I think I'll fly one more tank". I should know better as this has happened every damn time I've photographed my helis!

Parts should be here by weeks end. All of the electronics survived as well as the motor as I hit TH just after the big doink.

The worst part is the mud, it's everywhere!

Spared it for later in the day anyway!

See you all again tomorrow. We'll have to see if the football team is there. If so then we'll hang out at the soccer field and then move over.
