Well it was gonna happen sooner or later. It was really windy today and i'm still very much a beginnner. First tank hovering and moving left to right went really well, no probs. Second tank with my instructor by my side I started to try some FF. Plan was to take off, slide sideways to a point, turn 90deg and FF back to me, turn 90deg again and stop in a hover.

Well I got out to the first 90deg point, lost all orientation and she went in. Went down hard and bounced off the training gear which took out the undercarriage and one of the training arms went through the main rotor.

Mininal damage really, blades, spindle, flybar, pitch link and a landing strut. Still running woodies so not bad really . Oh and somehow the aileron servo horn snapped. Although I wonder if that happened before or after the crash

Parts are on the way so i'll be back up flying next sat hopefully. TBH i'm glad i've had my first crash, as in a way I was waiting for it.

I think I'll get my mates buddy box next time before I try more FF

There will be more crashes…I have said before, “If you never crash, your not pushing your skills to their limit!”

If you keep doing the same thing…’re going to get the same results!

My first two attempts at FF ended in a crash, put the brakes on the learning curve for me, but once I got over those first crashes, I was burning holes in the sky, and never looked back. Keep at it, crashes are all part of the hobbie. Crashing helps hone our skills at building....hahahha.

Ignorance is curable, stupidity is for life.

Welcome to the club of those who have. It's quite large really. It happens, that's just the nature of helis. Unless you are happy just flying in circles and not really trying too much, they are going to hit the ground. The time spread does get longer in between though.
