Naomi: the canopy was intended for overcast days... I just forgot that here it sunny most of the year

Anyway, I wont bother to upgrade. This bird has been a money pit so when I crash I'm going to buy the sinergy N9 or the Aurora and but a bright red colorscheme on it

Hey al...

Caught some breaks in the weather today and got a few flights in...starting dong approaches...went quite well..just have to remember to hover at the end...otherwise she just slams down and slides a bit..hahah

Did my first nose-in take-off and landing...during windy conditions...was quite exciting..

I fly with a bunch of plankers..and they go over and under me when i hover...they will call 'coming in' for landing and then i go higher up to clear the field and let them land..

Do you guys know what i need to convert my started so i don't need the big field battery anymore?? I want the craddle thingy with the 2 RC car batteries...once i do that and get my triton i can ditch the 12V field battery and just change from car if needed.

Congrats on the the nose in take off and landing. I'm going do that next time.

What you need is a K&S Battery holder. It costs around 6 bucks. You will also need to racing packs (7.2V) with around 2200-3300mAh connected in series to the starter.

man...these racing packs are about $40 and the holder $10-$12.

Thats a lot of money for just the luxery of non cord on the starter.

Do I need that high amperage packs? I only need to start the engine a few time (maybe 6 flights a day and after the first start of the day which is usually a bit rough all the other start i barely press the button on the starter and she's on.)

If I could get away with 2 1500mah packs it would make this setup a lot more affordable.

I suppose the difference is in the discharge rating. Will the 1500mah's supply enough power? I understand the benefit of the 3300mah's, but if that gives me super starting power for 30 starts than thats much than i need and want to pay for.

Hi Airflex,

That's why when you saw my cordless starter, it's just tied wrap with two 7.2V 3300mah packs. It works just find.

Not the best looking but it works.

I think the high cap batteries will be fine. The race packs do have a higher discharge rate for that extra punch.

Hi All!

Got one tank in today and it felt great. High up zipping around. A little too breezy for the Trex. Had to cut the day short to take care of family stuff.

Here's the results.

Hi guys.

I did 3 tanks today. And modesty aside, I was on fire. I even got some applause after finishing the flight with an auto

On my third tank as it was pretty windy I decided to practice autorotations and did about 12 great ones. I decided to do one more... Hit TH, gave around -4 deg, descended gracefully to the ground, flared and... hard cross wind gust from left! Managed to balance out the bird but I lost alot of headspeed. I used the remaining headspeed to lower the nose to avoid a boomstrike and let it fall from 2 feet high. As I was using an aftermarket carbon landing gear (which I always thought was too thin) it cracked right away. Fortunately the bird remained upright until I picked it up, at which point the left skid fell off...

I guess I'm lucky as the bird could have fell on its side and I would need at least a new flybar and a pair of Blades!!

Going to order the standart low ride freya landing gear tonight ($21). I never should have removed it.

From now on: NO MORE CARBON LANDING GEARS!

Does anybody on this thread do tail stand launches? Naomi?

I did some mini ones... I mean High up and more like a stretched backflip and I notice the heli wants to roll to the left on the inverted part. Is that normal? I can't find a plausible explanation except for the wind...

This doesn't happen when I flip it inverted and hold. Only When giving negative collective in that short inverted backwards flight.

Another thing I found out today is that I'm able to auto and land almost in front of me but pretty much away... when I look at the bird high up, it seems almost to come in my direction but once I start to drop down I end landing 40 feet in front of me...

Tail stand take off.. Yup. Very often. The heli tends to roll left I think it's the torque effect. I got that too, just be prepare to correct that with the Aileron. . Done fair abit of very low inv hover today.. first part of the day was rather windy. I done some Low inv hover but not as much fun.. the evening part was much more fun.. very little wind lots of fun. you shoul try some of that Tony.. Naomi

Thx Naomi.

How are you inverted backwards FF skills?

I mean... I really would like to do a full blown tail stand launch but I barely can hover inverted. I do know how to correct some akward situation during a tail stand launch, at least on the sim but I don't know how to turn inverted and backwards for example... maybe I shouldn't try to run before I walk but I have that itch...

I also find it way easier to do a loop than a stall turn and autos easier than flying figure 8's so maybe its my brain that isn't working as it should.

That was mine Trex.
Damages were main shaft, feathering shaft, tail blades and 2 sets of servo gears.

The video was much long with other stuff that was part of the contest. This small clip had the best part IMO.

As you said, this was not that easy. Small heli and small things to knock over.

But I had a BLAST doing it.

ok guys...what's a 'Tail stand launch' or how can it be done 'normal' or 'backwards'??

Is this kind of like drag racing?? You go from sitting on the grass to full speed at low altitude? On this sim and in real life i do this forward but not backward...tried this backward on this sim...but you need half a backflip and half a roll at the some time...tricky business...I won't try that untill i have some more parts in the house...lol..

Other solutions for low gear on the EVO is the Tuff Struts... I put this on mine and it's lower than the stock EVO buy about an inch and disntance between skids is about 2 inches wides (good for landings)...overall it looks much better than the stock EVO gear..

Wow...it didn't look all that bad at the field...thought it was just a tail blade...or did you crash it again later that day??
