that gear ratio is best for a OS engine.....

Sorry but its the engine that needs the correct ratio.......

680's,710's are fine as long as you have the long boom.....

That gear ratio you have stated is designed so that you may run higher headspeeds with the big blocks. At 8.27 you are getting very close to the maximum HP developed and staying within optimum torque range for either the OS91 or the YS91 engines with a MP2 that gear ratio sets you up for around 15,299 RPM at 1850HS.. This is a little high for the rating given to a YS 91 but contact with YS has confirmed basically that if you don't run it lean this will not be a problem. Another recommendation was to replace the steel bearings with ceramics and be done with it. A safer run speedd that keeps you well within maximum torque and HP band is 1800 with an RPM of 14886.. The above mentioned gear ratios and engine RPM's are the optimal specs for the MP2, I believe the Hatori's run a bit higher for maximum return on the motor and produce a nominal amout of power gain over MP2's and both produce way more power than a stock muffler pipe.

I run the YS at 15299 with no issues but I run it still on the rich side.

I run a 8.27 with my YS.91 and MPII with TT 710s. As stated it keeps the engine in the "sweet spot".

vins i also run the 710's what pipe are you running on your OS?

If you have either an appropriate Hatori or the MP2 you can run up to 1850 for HS with that gear ratio

I am sure you can hump up the HS and RPM even on that pipe but do it in increments.
