Hi Everyone,

I bought a raptor 30v2 with TT39 engine last summer, everything is running great so far. Here is my question, after reading some post in this forum, it seems like there are some reliable issues regarding to TT39 engine. Therefore i am wondering if should take out TT39 and take it apart to make sure if all the parts are ok?? The engine only went through about 4 to 5 gallons of fuel so far(only fly on weekend..), so i considered the engine is still quite new. The field i fly at has a huge pond next to it, every once and then i have to fly through the pond . Therefore i definitely will not want to see the engine quit on me in the mid air... I plan to upgrade to OS50 hyper engine this summer, but in the mean time i would like to keep my heli in one piece.... Any helps or suggestions i will really appreciate it. Perhaps any pre cauious i should to take to maintain my heli. What are some of the important components i should keep my eyes on base on the age of my raptor 30v2...Thanks!!

i hope you mean you fly over the pond i got a rappy 30 v2 with a tt39 engine and have not had any problems with it. another guy at my club had one blow up on him. if your tt39 is running ok i wouldn't take it a part. remember if it aint broke don't fix it things to check, fuel lines in all tanks, tail drive belt tightness. check all links for wear. check screws nuts and bolts for tightness. check for extra play or slop in the rotor head (tighten or replace balls and links control arms). the clutch will probably be one of the first mechanical things to go bad. check all moving parts for excessive wear. the checks i mentioned above, some should be done weekly, some monthly regardless of how many flights you have on your heli. for example the fuel lines i check once a month. i check the tail drive belt tightness before the first flight of the day. i check screws, nuts and bolts once a week. keep a glow plug in the engine at all times and you may want to get a muffler plug to keep moisture out of the engine. it also keeps fuel from dripping out of the muffler. as for the reliability of the tt39 i don't have a problem with it

Thanks for your reply. Yes fly over pond is correct not through pond ..

Anyway, so should i check the clutch and clutch bell inner wall at this moment to check if both components are still ok. The engine has gone through about 4 or 5 gallon of fuels...

my two cents..

TT39 is quite reliable if tuned correctly..Many people run them too lean in the idle, which is really the midrange...If the con rod lets go, this is usually the cause...The engine is much happier on 30% nitro than 15%, the lower % fuel exacerbates the idle/midrange issue...Consider doing the needle mod.

Thanks for all the replies,

My engine is running with 30% fuel. I believe it is running quite rich, i can see alot of unburn fuel from the exhaust....

4 to 5 gallons, i don't think you need to worry about the clutch just yet. raptor techniques website might be able to answer your questions pretty good.
