Hey,
I was wondering whats the chances of having 2 OS32's both dieing within a couple of weeks of each other?
The first was new an has only had 2/3'rds of a gallon at most! thru it, and its playing up to the point its untunable
The second i bought second hand (allegedly only a couple of gallons) and appears to have good compression and ran like a dream for 3 weeks untill it to needed slight re-tuning and now wont tune (when i say wont tune i mean have spend a good 4+ hours on each and they just refuse to run over idle)

The one clue we have is that there are what appear to be very fine silver filings over the second engine, but only around the carb.... no where else...
These filings are not on the fan, nowhere above the fan or anywhere else on the engine or heli... only around the base of the carb

Conclusion is they must have come from the engine so where/how?

Am very confused lol.

Am going to throw the newer engine into another heli as i suspect it may be the heli itself as both engines idle beautifully but no mid/high end tuning has been achived because neither will run high end.... possibly the heli lol.

Any ideas how the tranmission could cause thing? All seems to spin freely by hand (in the right places lol) but could there be binding at mid rpm?!

Any ideas would be nice

Which version of the OS 32SX-H do you have - ringed or ABC (really ABN).

If it's the ABN version you might have peeled the liner by too many lean runs
or possibly insufficient lube content in the fuel but these metal peelings would not likely be spit out of the carb as you have mentioned. If you pull the heat sink head off the engne and wipe out the inside of the liner you will be able to see some brass color under any peeled nickel plating. This is a sign that the engine has been run too lean too long. This is also a problem that should never happen but OS switched to nickel rather than the more proper and bullet proof chrome plating they used to use in their sport engines around 20 years ago.

The tuning issues you've been having might possibly be related to this peeling.

Your fine metal dust around your carb might just be what's coming from the clutch but there happens to be fuel residue around the carb so it sticks here.

Are you still using a tuned pipe? I have the Maverick muffler which gives me really easy tuning, but not quite the power I imagine.

I would do these to make sure these are not the cause (since there are 2 engines fussing and not just one).: Make sure head & carb is tight. New fuel line everywhere, new plugs, pressure test the tank under water and look for bubbles.

Whenever I have tuning problems in planks I do all of the above before actually doing anything since it almost always winds up that the motor itself is fine (O.S.). So far so good with my OS 32 on my Raptor.

must have been a downdraft

hehe,
Thanks for the thoughts

I think i can say its the heli as i took the V1 out with one of the eingins and it took off straight out at 1.5 turns... started to warm up after a minute or so but i will fine tune her later (spent the majorily of my free time round lunch time setting up the bird nicely) so yeah.
Its almost indefinatly the V2 heli...
Could it possibly be mid/high RPM binding anywhere?!
I'm running a muffler and havnt used the tuned pipe for a while now due to all this fuss lol.
But yes, the power gains from a tuned pipe come with the extra hassle of finnicky tuning *grumbles*

Oh well...
Now time to ponder how the heli is killing the eingines at mid-high rpm in a manner that appears to be tuning

Ps, Fly, Tank is checked and all tubing replaced The V1 looks set to go... only problem would be she's a LOT nipper ?!
I'm thinking there are major bearing issues with the V1...
Anyone agree with that conclusion?!
I'll take her appart monday
