Well, since you'll probably be learning to hover first, just do this with the engine set rich.

If it's an OS engine, start with the main needle more than 2.5 turns out for the first tank. Then, turn the main needle in 1/4 turn for each tank of fuel you fly until it's at 1.5 turns out.

when hovering the low and high needle work together
keep this in mind when you start leaning the engine out

Congratulation on buying a Caliber 30. I learned on the same machine, I still have it and still love it, and believe it or not never crashed YET. I have about 8 gallons of fuel through it. When I ran mine for the first time I just played with the needles till it ran smooth and smoked a little bit. To tell the truth, i did not touch the needles on the carb until i started foward flight, it was set-up from the factory almost perfectly.

The trick is to run it and then land it and let it cool down,,,,,the best thing for a new motor is getting it warm and then let it cool while running it rich..over and over and over,,,,,IMHO

QUICK! ,,,can someone turn the gravity off for just a second,,,,

Which if you're just learning to hover is EXACTLY what you'll be doing. The "cooling off" period will be the time you're spending between "hops" taking some needed breaths, blinking a few times and trying to get the shakes out of your hands.

Once you get real good at helis, breathing and blinking can be done while flying without too much extra thought. Having the shakes never goes away if you keep pushing the envelope. You just do it during the most risky parts of the flight.
