I have maybe two gallons thru my rappy 50, and had a free day today and of course the wind is blowing about 20 mph. But since I live next to SD this is a normal afternoon, and you learn or sit. So up I went, I got about 3/4 thru the tank when the tail started acting funny. It kept weathervaneing into the wind. As I looked at it, it looked as though a boom support had came off from the boom itself. so i brought it in for a landing, into the wind as it was, and landed. As I got up to it I saw that the cf pushrod to my tail had popped off!!
Thank God it was blowin to beat hell, I have been working on controlling my pirouting flight but only on the sim so far and not all that successfully. I would have hated to have to control that AND shoot my very first auto all at the same time. ( I have been working my up towards shooting my first auto, but so far have not had the nutz to pull that throttle hold switch yet.)
It wasn't the greatest day all around either, as I blew the Virt fin off my Sledge 540 do a blender the next flight! Luckly it flys just as well with it hangin undeneith the elevator as it does mounted on top.
Uh..., yea..., I meant to do that.
