Hi Guys,

I have an Avant canopy that I would like to be painted and am looking for the canopy Maestro to help me out.

I know I can sent it to Arizona yada yada yada but would prefer to go with someone closer to Ireland.

Looking for:
* Someone who will do a proffesional job.
* Someone with references.
* Someone who can do nice not tacky flame work.
* Someone who understands the application of paint for models.
* Of course price is an object, but I understand that you get what you pay for.
* Part time or hobby painter is fine if they are meticulous, but not a dodgy back yard dodge up (I could do that myself )

If anyone could recommend a service I would be happy to hear.

btw, I emailed Ian@modelpaint.co.uk but if anyone has experience in using them then feel free to comment/attach pics.

If all else fails maybe I'll send it to that guy Justin in American Chopper. Anyone know what his company name is?

A friend at the local field (darrens here on RR) has just had a paint job done by modelpaint and it is really first class but its lots of $$$ (you get what you pay for at the end of the day)..

See...

You can also try andy (http://www.realraptors.co.uk) who does nice work but is a bit cheaper..

See..

Cheers

closer closer to dublin
Hi there i have a friend who will do it for you in galway
he talks the talk. the best thing is its near to dublin and he is so cheap
ill post some pictures of one he did for me.

the only thing is he cant paint stright lines or curves, the paint comes off on your hand or on the car seat .the finish needs finishing.

If this level of workmanship is not up to you standard my girlfriend said she could do a better job with her nail polish.

Hey coops, thanks for the great tip!

I checked out his site, those paint jobs rock.

Will drop him an email and see what the storey is.

thanks again man! :-)

For anyone wanting to have a shot, go ahead and paintshop me up a custom canopy on the below pic. You won't win anything but if you're bored and think you're a hotshot on a mouse then who know's, you might find a whole hidden talent!

Heliart say on their site they are not taking any more bookings (since Dec 2004).

Not too worry, I'll keep up my search anyways...

Olivier,

You should really just open a fresh thread to ask your question. But I'll answer it here anyway.

The canopy on Gricey's Avant is fiberglass.

It is possible to paint the plastic raptor style canopy. However it more difficult as the paint needs to....................

1. stick to the plastic which is very slippery
2.Be very flexible as the canopy is flexible

As far as I know a special "etch" primer similar to what is used for painting car bumpers is used, and there is some type of agent added to the paint to make it more elastic.

Hope this helps
