Why does raptor 60 use a shaft for tr drive. The 30 and 50 belt drive works just fine. The shaft drive should be more expence to build and the belt drive more reliable.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks???

Funny part is, when you have a belt, the shaft drive is considered an upgrade. But, there is a belt conversion available for a Rap 60. Some people like to change, simply for the sake of change. Human nature at work, I guess.

I prefer the shaft over the belt. I hate hearing the belt rattling when doing backwards inverted, I keep thinking something is wrong. I land the 50, check the belt and it's nice and tight. Very odd.

This doesn't happen to shaft drive. I was lucky to land my heli in one piece but now I have this white powdery belt everywhere in it.

Well all I have to say is the belt is easy and the shaft with bearings assembly is the biggest PITA I have ever encounterd. That does not mean I like the belt. My 30's belt always makes a clicking sound and I stop the flight and everything is still tight. The shaft setup I like the strentgh and once you set it you leave it. Stuffing the bearings in that tube is just a nightmare.

Kris, I wouldn't blame the belt for that failure.

I appreciate the quality and efficiency of a tube drive, but I do crash now and then ...... and all you replace is the boom, some head pieces and blades. Can't beat that for simplicity.

What would you Al? Did you notice that left side guide pulley has lost one of it's outer edges, it looks like peeled off with hobby knife.

Don't muck about: replace the guide pulley. Make sure your belt's tight enough.

Neat pictures, btw. I've done the same, following a harsh auto landing when the belt was a little slack. The belt jumps off it's pulley, and then grinds itself away on pulley edge and frame.

I would do as Pieter said. You can't beat a belt for reliable performance.
