im in the middle of breaking in a new tt50 engine on my raptor. its still rich and still spitting fuel pretty good. im to the point where the backplate is just begining to turn from cold to sleightly warm. when idling and i hold on the skids i can feel some wickid high frequency vibes. when i give a bit of throttle the boom supports vibrate at high frequency and the tips of the horizontal fin vibrate with a furious high frequency. a bit more throttle doesnt help either. im trying to find out the cause so i can remedy it. i think ti has to do with an unbalanced fan or something of that nature. if it is the porblem for me is that i dont have any specialized tools to fix it, like a high point balancer etc. any input welcome

pics available for review if it would help, just ask what you need to see and i'll snap up some stills.

i dunno. its possible its a tuning issue, but i honestly dont believe so. its tuned quite well so far. its gone from unbareibly rich, to just a bit rich with no apparent changes. it can idle forever im certain. i can feel the vibes everywhere on the heli, and can see them in tho boom supports and fins. any more thoughts?

the motor and fan are spinning. maybe the fans the culprit?

just took the engine out and gave it an inspection. nothing obvious seems wrong. i checked the starter shaft aswell, its fine. i took the clutch off the fan and tunred it 180 degrees and put it back on, then reinstalled the engine. after starting it the problem persists. no change. on a side note i notices that when the engine is running the starter coupling spins along with the engine. if i put my finger on it with light pressure it stops, is this alright?

Vibes ?
Is your heli in the air like in a hover when you are seeing the vibes or on the ground and or when spooling up. Thanks Mike

Ever seen a Harley idle
How the front wheel shakes and when you change the engine rpm past to another resonant frequency it will change it doesn't go away it does smooth out, if yours gets worse you need to get it to a flying site with other flyer's that can help that is the same place I'm at I have a Bergen Intrepid that after two engines and extensive problems that won't go away Vibes I am taking it apart once again purchasing a gram scale and more expensive measuring equipment in an effort to find the problem 4mo. Lots of $ still can't fly it. Some times I wished! But them Heliproz is shipping my two new heli's and I will take a brake from my EB /G260 Handsom

they get worse with higher throttle. and i cant go to a flying site and have it checked because thats like a 500+ km one way trip. and around here I AM the heli expert out of the maybe 2 heli flyers.

just following up some here, i tuned the engine up, still have the vibes. i strongly suggest that its not a tuning issue. i have to somehow check the fan and clutch. the tips of the fin and the tail control rod look like guitar strings that have just been strummed hard.

It may be worth checking the engine bearings just in case they are shot, even though it is a new engine.

Hope you sort it.

harsh vibes
Had same problem with tt70 pro-had bad vibes as it came on pipe and just of idle or high idle it would also vibe bad, would resonate right through chassis and boom stays and also give gyro hard time, stripped and checked fan balance. was running rich-ish(just 1/8 out from std)wasnt too hot, but after four tanks had severe leaning probs-three sudden flame-outs?stripped carb/new lines(inc clunk)checked for air leaks etc, took motor out and checked fan balance(again!)-still same vibes ,and eventually was having to run needle so far out,it was nearly falling out! and bottom was so rich it was a pig to clear and keep running.pulled engine, fitted new lump and problems have dissapeared-after comparing both engines i found the problem child had quite a bit more end float on crank, this was maybe contributing to both problems, will maybe try rebuild and run on bench, maybe its a badly matched crank/cases or machined too deep,or even a dodgy bearing, ill have to see.seems harsh to have to fit new motor, but there is a bogey one every now and then, and id sooner be flyin than messin around with the thing,i can fly now and mess with other in works time!

dti
yeah tried the DTI ,i thought clutch may have started to spread but it was ok,ive also tried balancing the assembly as a whole,u know clutch and fan,it seems there are differing opinions on that, but from what i see most are happy to disregard the clutch and just do fan?

cant think of anything other than motor related problems,as you say its doin it while stationary,so its not like anything else could be causing it,noticed some of the c spec motors are harsh until broken in and vibe a lot-maybe give it some more tanks?-i made a fan balancing tool out of some carbon flybar stiffeners off a r60,i cut the carbon tube in half and used the alloy collars to ctr the fan-(may have to clean the start of the thread to get the collar to sit central),i then used two spare bearings-one each end,and sat the assy across two blocks of wood, found it was as accurate as the knife edge rollers-and you get two out of one f/bar kit, dont know if you have them out there, but ill check it fits the smaller fans-if ur interested mail me and ill send you pics of it
