For those of you who have an X-Cell Gasser, here is something to look for and the fix if it happens to you.
I was flying my gasser on Saturday, and all of a sudden, the engine quit . No warning, just quit.
As I was auto'ing the ship back to Earth, I was pretty disappointed in myself for running out of gas. (I have never run out of gas).
When I landed and checked the fuel supply, I had plenty left. As I picked up the heli, I saw the bottom bolt
that holds the coil in place (it bolts into the rear motor mount plate) fall out.
This is the ground bolt, and it obviously sheared off due to vibration. Once it sheared off, the ground circuit was broken, and the motor quit.
I replaced the bolt and all was well. However, I also soldered a wire braid from the portion of the coil where the bottom bolts is inserted to the rear motor mount plate as an additional or back-up ground.
This way, if the bolt breaks again, I have the secondary ground. I did try this system by removing the lower bolt, and the motor just kept on running.
Best Regards, Dario
