I'm currently considering to getting my first gas heli. I've heard a lot of about the Sceadu Evo 50 and have been looking into websites. I have seen two types, SWM and HPM what's the difference??? Both are of the same price, I'm not sure if it also includes DTDS???

SWM (Swash mixing) is eCCPM setup - it's a little quicker/sharper

HPM is three function mechanical swash control - this is what most Sceadu owners use

I have both. They are identical, except for the control system. The SWM version is eCCPM, the HPM is a "normal" mechanical mix.

The SWM has a crisper feel to the collective and has more cyclic power. But you need to use good digital servos (you need 3).

I'm no Curtis or Jason Kraus, but I fly OK. And I can barely tell the difference between them. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd probably go with the SWM just because of the slightly crisper feel. But, honestly, the HPM system is so good that 90% of pilots wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

The ECCPM is really nice on the EVO and I think that it really helps set the EVO apart from the Raptor.

Plus it cleans up the mechanics and makes the set up much nicer.

The HPM version isn't bad and works well too though.

Thank you so much for the information guys. I've been training on my T-rex.. However, when I do find the confidence to fly the Sceadu Evo I would get one soon. Honestly, I think I spent a lot on my T-rex that it almost amounted to getting a Sceadu Evo..

Anyways, I checked the Hirobo site earlier... Does the SWM and HPM version come with the all Metal upgrades? Do you advice it?

If you're getting the HPM models, they come in either standard or push-pull versions. The push-pull is included with the Evo 50, but not with the 30.

The only really necessary metal upgrade for the Evo is the radius block, and that's usually not needed until the stock one wears out. Other than that the model flies very nicely just as it comes. Other "nice" modifications are Carbon Extreme dampeners if you're going to do any hard 3D, and 90mm or 92mm tail blades (I run 92mm Freya blades).

Of course, if you start buying metal parts there's a lot of them available, and they're a very pretty shiny blue color. Like jewelry, the shiny bits tend to be expensive, and don't do much but add decoration.

I second Leif's comments. The only metal upgrade that's really needed is the radius block. I stripped the one in the HPM version during assembly, so I can't say how long it lasts until it wears out. I bought the SWM version used and it already had the metal radius block.

If you've been flying the T-Rex, you'll find the HPM EVO very familiar. The control system layout and set up is nearly identical (as is the rotor head and tail rotor). You and I must have a very similar mindset because I also have a T-Rex

The EVO is a lot more stable in a hover and if you're into aerobatics at all, you'll find that the bigger helicopter carries through manuevers much more smoothly. I get great enjoyment from the T-Rex, but I still prefer the power and smoothness of the EVO 50!

Do you think SWM will be a better buy? Can I use standard servos with the Evo 50s? Do i really need a governor to fly these?

I can't answer which is a better buy, I have the HPM, and it flies great. It seems like HPM is the one that most dealers have in stock...

For servos, you don't need anything TOO special, I wouldn't do standard (meaning s3001 from futaba or equivalent), but go a step up, at least on the collective. For collective, you'll need something with more power. I like the Hitec HS635s, they are pretty inexpensive, and they work well. If you are more advanced, don't skimp on the servos, get something good.

For a governor, they are not ABSOLUTELY necessary, but certainly helpful. I've just been setting my Evo 50 up, and the magnet has been thrown from the governor, and I'm having a very hard time getting it to not overspeed or bog. Where as the one flight I managed to get in before the magnet departed the Evo, it was perfect with no bogging or overspeeding. If you're just hovering around, don't worry about it, but much beyond that, get a governor, they're not that expensive.
