Ade, watching you fly at the weekend, and watching me fly, I'm the LAST person you should be asking for help
Simon, thanks very much for your encouraging words, I lost sleep last night thinking what a d*ckhead I was for even flying, but you just changed that. I am serious about scale, that is where my strength is, but I won't stop tinkering with 3D, I should really be pleased that my flying has got to the stage it is at the moment ( I know it didn't show at the comp ) I will reserve my decision as to whether to enter again for a while, the standard was so high already, it will have moved on by next year, but maybe I could be like the " before " in a "bfore and after " advert! People could say " That's how we flew 5 years ago, this is how we fly now"
Therapy..... now that's what I need...
I still enjoyed the weekend, great bunch of guys, great club and well organised, thanks again.
T.C. thanks, It was you with the Wolf wasn't it ? I really liked that too, well done.

Denis, the two airwolfs that were at the show belonged to myself and DangerousDick, the wolf that did the display was DangerousDick, This was the person sat on the Flight Line for the comp.

Thanks Chris.

Thanks for your encouraging comments Simon, Skyline will always make the effort to support events like this, and I thought the whole atmosphere throughout the weekend was thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm appalled at the general level of flying these days. Its quite clear that people are putting a considerable amount of time into honing new skills, so its definitely time for this old dog to learn some new tricks.

I shall restrict my competitive involvement to Spot autos and the like, saving myself embarrassment, spectators from boredom etc. A 'mans got to know his limitations'

Denis, Not mine, the 1 that flew was Dangerous Dicks & the other belong to Profile as he as already said.

I was a humble spectator.

However, I am currently building a Bell 222, check my gallery.

Sorry guys, my mistake. I still liked it though. And I'm supposed to be doing an article for MHW. I'll leave spaces under the photos and you can all fill in your own names
Roger, you hit MY nail on the head!! Big thanks for your support, but next time you are giving goes on your turbine I insist you change to mode four for me, otherwise I'll give a 3D demo

Scoring System
Their seems to be quite alot of interest in the judging criteria and how we came to the final result/score for pilots.

Having been involved (Pilot/Competitor) with the 3D Masters and XFC I can tell you the Clubman 3D system is relatively straightforward.

For the next Clubman 3D Cup I will produce a Pilots guide, which describes ,what is expected, how the scoring system works and how to maximise your scores.

Clubman 3D 2005 was a learning experience for all the ogranisers. But we think it went pretty good for a first effort.

Regards

Paul

good idea paul
that sounds a great idea...with the scoring....i had a great time at the competition and cant wait for the dvd..my only concern is that..12 months on i will be alot better..because i didnt have time to practice properly so i picked tricks i could already do...but next year with myself and craig jones and barry curtis all alot better flyers it will take the comp to the next level..we must make this competition available to the club flyer and if they see that the level has risen again.it might deter clubman pilots..there was few pilots doing basic man'vres and just wonder if there is anything that may be done about this..there were a few pilots in the flyin on the saturday and they stood and watched on the sunday thinking they were'nt ready for clubman 3d..should this be the way we want it..also instead of having a two free stlyes maybe we can have set music(set by you) TO CHALLENGE THE LADS
but i did enjoy it and thought all the judges were a great bunch

dude we need one set of rules so we all know where we stand
With 3d clubmans I am sure you have one set of rules.
With FAI comps they do to.
3dmasters created its own set of rules 5 years back.

clubman 3d is a different new competition. Neil and Paul are sensible to not simply copy 3dmasters as if it is the only way to do it. No, they have created their own format, new scoring system with the help of Nigel Revill too.

Paul has put that he will create a document for clubman 3d so all competitors are not in the dark. I am sure his document will be unique and honed to that event and not some general guide to world comps.

I created a large document my self for 3dmasters. Again, it was exclusive to that one event, explaining what we look for, why and how to gain the best. Also included are the more relevant rules to the flying itself and how we judge each round. This is given to all competitors of that event.

So which ever you enter next time, you will get a good guide to that specific event you choose to take part in. One can ask for no more, I would have thought.

Being clubman 3ds first I can understand them getting the comp done so they can learn before creating such a document.

Dodger.
A 'mans got to know his limitations'
I think most of us don't really know what out limitations are. We just need that positive attitude to TRY. I reckon a year from now you should give it a go.. And DenisS too.. A year is a long time.

Simon, thanks very much for your encouraging words, I lost sleep last night thinking what a d*ckhead I was
You have to be kidding. You went in the comp. came out enjoying it. All have respect. We can not all be top dudes. That was not the competition breif from what I understood. I thought it was for club flyers to have a go at a light competition and enjoy it.
Did you enjoy the weekend?? That is all that matters innit!!!.

thanks simon, but why would paul want to create a new document.
according to rain man in an earlier post said that every competitor recived an email with the format.
i have now recieved lots of private messages regarding rainmans post
guess what they did not get an email,im starting to think did rainman turn up at the correct competion.
even if you click on the 3d clubman score board and add up all three rounds gareth davis wins.
but for some reason you guys do not want to include the first diy round ,so why have it.
the competitors had plenty of practice on saturday and sunday morning, they did not need another practice mid competition.
its looking ropey guys.
the image im getting is a big turd flying towards a fan

Phil,

Have u been eating glowsticks?

There is a reason for carrying over set manouvre scores.. that is to get people to develop skill and good control, rather than just stick banging, that seems to be the current theme for freestyle these days.. (which a lot of us are guilty of, me included. )

DenisS, I dont know why you thought your flying was so bad, it looked pretty smooth and in control to me. Afterall, the main part is to enjoy the hobby, not to beat yourself up over it. Flying in a competition is never as easy as standing behind the ropes and watching it

hi phil844,
but for some reason you guys do not want to include the first diy round ,so why have it
as far as i made out this round was added to the first round to produce a final score that was normalised meaning out of a 1000..1st and proportional scoring for 2nd,3rd etc...with this score totted up then the top 5 flew a repeat of the freestyle round......ok so far...then in this final the score was again normalised and this was added to the first round,as simon brown has already posted, neil and paul made a decision to make the clubman its own competition and not to simply copy the 3d masters scoring system,so there we have it...you need to do well in 1st and second rounds just to get to the final...but then to succeed you needed a good start score and a good final score to win...the second round is a sort of qualifying round if you like...anyway m8 this is as far as i could work it out hope this answers your worries i'm sure any teething probs will be ironed out
