I was thinking I wanted to put a protective plastic shield over my gyro (401) and then had second thoughts about it holding in heat. I also used a very thin piece of brass straping bent into the shape of a c-clip to act as a secondary hold down,,,would the gyro be affected by the metal strap you think? Thanks,,,,,Mike

the case on a 401 is conductive, dont put any metal touching it, intermitent contact between metal and case can cause bad problems

As Crusty pointed out, the gyro case is conductive. The instructions tell you to avoid metal contact with the case.

Also, any additional items touching the gyro case can help transmit vibrations to the gyro. The best bet for a secondary hold-down is a velcro strap, as this is a soft, non-conductive option.

The gyro generates very little heat. A protective plastic case also would not be a problem. As a precaution, you could always drill some vent holes in the case to prevent heat build-up from the little heat that is generated. You just would need to ensure that the plastic case does not contact the gyro case, except on the bottom where it's mounted.

In my world, plastic is nonconductive, and last I checked, the 401 case was plastic.

I personally would not put a metal strap around the gyro, but I'm not posative if it would hurt it or not. A velcro strap over the gyro would be a much better solution.

it depends on the plastic... i've had some experiences where i found plastics to be very conductive. even some carbon fiber is conductive so its very possible to short out electronics....

I wanted to use a vlecro strap but the locatin did'nt allow for a square bottom to wrap it around. I had formed a brass strap to clip onto the frame withput having to go all the way around it. BUt I will have to come up with something else...thanks for the help....Mike
