Well here is what happens when your heli. swash goes opposite of every other heli you ever built for -/+ pitch...

Lesson for today... Check the blades not the swash direction for pitch on a R90.
Still dont know why TT would make it opposite the 30/50 without putting it in BIG RED LETTERS in the manual.
Oh well, No excuse for being a dumbass for the day I guess..

Thats my truck in the background of the second pic! lol But seriously I'm very sorry about your crash. I agree about that they should have that information in the manual. Once again, sorry bud!

When first setting up my TX programming for my R60 I noticed this reverse swash plate movement compared to my R30 and was puzzled. I did not even think of flying it until I confirmed which way the swash should move but I am a liitle surpised this detail got by you unoticed until after the first flight.

Oh well, the damage doesn't look too bad. Imagine your cost to repair an Xcell that had a similar crash?

Sorry Lucky, you can't blame TT, and no they don't need big red letters. When I set something up, pitch gauge on the blades, if I push the stick up, and the blades go down, I would tend to question that, right then, not try it to see what happens. I may be the only one here, that doesn't feel sorry for you.

Yep, thats why I feel like a total dumbass.. I even checked over the throttle at the field to make sure it was going the right way.. And everything else. But I just looked at the swash direction for pitch..
Live and learn I guess.. Not really upset that I crashed. Upset with myself for such a stupid mistake.....

That was not the case. You have to not be a total idiot and realize there is a problem before you can just see what happens..
And im not looking for pitty.. I know I am to blame.. But still sux when anyone looses a heli.. Thanks for careing..lol

It does suck to loose a heli, but Darwin usually wins. Thanks for posting it though, as maybe someone can learn from our mistakes.

That was my hopes. If it keeps one person from feeling like as much a dumbass as I do right now, its all good.. I just mentioned the TT thing because I have built R30/50, Hawk, ECO8,X-cell 60 and they all were pos pitch with swash going up... It just seams to me if every heli you built was that way even thier 50. You would think its the same. My mistake was not putting a gague on it. And your right! Thats noones fault but mine.. But I would have given it a bit more attn. if I had known before hand that it is backwards from the r50 I had just built..

It was a simple mistake. I'm sure you are not the first and certanly not the last to make it as well. The urge to fly a new Heli or Plane asap is very strong and sometimes we overlook the obvious and "KABOOM" our new toy is broken. Still a foot note printed in the R60-90 manual regarding this difference wouldn't hurt.

Al - Do any other Helis have this unusual swash plate movement issue?

Shemp, some helis have the pitch arm on the blade grip on trailing edge, some on leading edge. That has a lot to do with which way does what. The Raptor 30/50 used trailing, the 60/90 uses leading. Some people grip flipped their 30/50's to leading edge.

+ vs - Pitch
I made the same mistake building my 90 SE. I set up the pitch the same as my 50. Luckily I was going over the heli with a friend who pointed out that my pitch was backwards. When I told him I set it the same as my 50, he pointed out that my 50 has the control arm on the trailing edge of the blade, the 90 has it on the leading edge.....

Could have been a very ugly mess........

A good method to use when getting ready to test fly a new heli, is to have one of the other guys look it over. We do it all the time here. No matter how many you've done, another pair of eyes could see what you've missed.

happens to everyone at some point.

I helped a guy with set up of a very nice scale ship today, almost took off with the rudder reversed, fortunately i caught the mistake when i was checking everything for the third time.
