The module will work but when you plug the module into the 9C it will ask you if you want to initialize the module. I made up a bunch of the Clonepac modules when the price of the Campac modules were $50 each and for around $35 I made up a dozen of the modules. I've sold a few of them to fellow flyers, one of which had an 8U. The module had been initialized in my 9C and had a few models programmed and the 8U asked if I wanted to initialize the module.

hi mike c---thanks for the reply --but what im asking is if i take the campac module that i have now that is programmed with some of my models in it--and just plug it into the 9C--if i tell the radio that i dont want to initialize then will the programming in the module be retained and work the same in the 8u as the 9c?.....joe

As I sad, it's going to ask you if you want to initialize. I'm pretty sure from my experience with going the other way like I did that it's not going to give you the option of not initializing it. It has to be configured to work with the radio. And I don't see how the 9C could do anything with the data that's on the CAMPac anyway. It's a different radio with different parameters. You can try it but I think if you answer no when it asks you if you want to initialize, it just won't recognize the module.

Initialize = erase and set it up to use the 9c's parameters.

No Erase...

If you have model data on the CAMPac from an 8U, you get a one time chance to format it for the 9C.

Once done, you cannot put the CAMPac back into an 8U.

The Good part is that your model data WILL transfer into the 9C the first time you install the Campac into it.

Been there, done this, when I first got the 9C several years ago.

AFAIK it will not transfer your 8U model set up to the 9C it will just initialize the campac and start with it clean....................be warned.

This is straight from the Futaba website FAQ's:

Radio System FAQ
Can I copy a model from my 9C(A or H) F/P radio to my 9Z or 8U family radio using the CAMPac, or vice versa?
No, unfortunately not. There is no way to translate the data between radios.

I know fur sure you can't use them across the 9Z and anything else. But I also know that I didn't have to re-do all my setups when going from an 8U to the 9C. (One would remember such a thing on one's ONLY radio).

Bear in mind this was when the 9C first came out. So, there may have been a software change that now prevents this.

Frankly, what do you have to lose? If your data doesn't transfer, your back to where you were anyways.

The most important thing, is that there are functions of the 9C that don't exist on the 8U, and you wll still need to setup some things.

Coping 8U data to 9C
JoeyM,
Several years ago someone made up a spread sheet for 8U data and 9C data.

What I did was to copy the information for each model to the spreadsheet, then initialized the module to the 9C, then just manually entered the data from the spreadsheet. (Makes a good backup of the data also).

If you want a copy of the spreadsheet, just PM me and I will send it to you.

Joey,
I purchased a ClonePac a while back from this site:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/home...celouie/cms.htm
They have a program/interface tool that will interface your clonepac (or Campac) with your computer. You can download and change the data and resend it to the clonepac. Also, there is a program, that will take your 8U data and rearrange it and make it 9C compatible. See the link above.
I have not verified the effectiveness of these programs, just passing along the site for your reference. Let us know how you make out.
