Hey Jeff, i really like the CSM - i got some figures to punch in from Russ Deakin and it works flawlessly, and Yes i was a 601 pilot before that!

Mark, here is the SWM conversion:

why do you have two regulators?

the high currents that the 94758Z on eCCPM were drawing were just too much for one regulator, it was getting hot and cutting off, so using 2 regulators cured that.

Lior, please stop proposing the 2 regs solution until you fully understand what it takes to make it work correctly. For those of you thinking of running 2 regs in parallel please make sure you understand how to do so correctly. You need to use appropriate diodes. I just went through this with 2 UBEC's run in parallel

Could you explain how to do it correctly?
Thanks,

The thing is, I dont believe that the regulators output was Liors problem in the first place. Often times when going from zero load to high static load these regulators seem to lockup or freeze for a moment. The UBEC does it, the Kontronik BEC does it, the Duralites appear to do it as well. The thing is they dont do it in the air. I would be very suprised if Liors system is drawing enough current to overload a duralite regulator.

In order to do it correctly you need to use a shottky diodes to decouple the regulators.

I know this because I was running 2 UBECs in parallel and killed one of them. Just want to spare others the problem

Tabb,
evidently, one regf got hot ans cut off all the time, and as soon as you tuen #2 on, everything works well, this was the tip i got from Duralite themselves !

anyway, i would love to know why do you think this twin reg setup is causing the radio problems. i will, regardless, take on your tip of changing to a Nicd for a test.

thanks.

oh BTW - it was happening all the time, not just when going from no load to static load fast.

I've tested the 94758Z servo's using the Exciter servo tester.
They drew nearly twice the current of 9252 and 9451 servos
just doing a fast "no load" full sweep.
So there certainly is an issue there.

My Duralite regulator does get rather hot in my Predator
(ouch - sorry to mention that in the Hirobo thread )
I have three 9451's doing CCPM and two 9254's (tail/throttle).

Just a note on the Duralite regulator, the two power wires
coming out of the unit are not held or supported in any way.
My negative simply fell off prior to a flight,
I was so lucky that it grounded my bird,
rather than happen 1 minute later in flight.
The wires were soldered into the board and bent over 90 deg,
eventually a wire snapped just above where the solder finished
and the wire went through 90 deg...
If these wires are loosing strands that could be your issue too(?).

I completely fail to see the need for the diodes,
and if they are so critical I'm sure Duralite would have
advised I3DM when they put forward the dual reg idea.

I3DM: Have a look at the Fromeco Regulator,
much bigger heat sink to allow higher duty cycle.

this discussion belongs in the post above, lets keep it there for proffesional reasons and not hijack this thread.
Thanks !!

BTW Jafa - Fromeco is working on a new heli regulator right now, the one they currently have doesnt work well for helis. people are testing prototypes as we speak.

jafa,

I had the same thing happen to me. A wire fell off a regualtor and it downed one of my birds. It was a duralite regulator too. I will watch how I support those wires from now on.
