I am not usually a big fan of torching a company, but here I go. I contacted Horizon concerning a new G500t/8700 gyro and servo combo that I had in a Predator gasser. The heli and gyro had about 1-1/2 gallons on it when the 8700 locked up, causing a fairly mild (probably $300-400 including blades and 8700 servo) crash. I contacted Horizon for support, and their response was, sure, send in the 8700 and we'll fix it. Now if I had been using the gyro in some non standard manner, I could understand the reluctance to help with the crash costs, but come on, less than two gallons on a product that has been used EXACTLY as it was intended. I have been a long time JR supporter, but this SUCKS. Where did I see that post for the 14MZ for sale... Sadly, I imagine the response from Futaba would be the same.

Actually the response from Futaba would have been worse.

What would you like Horizon to do?
They aren't going to give you cash (you didn't really expect a check for parts did you?) and they don't have Predator parts.
What is it that you want?

I have had very good luck getting support from Horizon.
Admittedly, I was flying a Vigor.

I think if you do this long enough you're going to have a story like this.

Mine is with TT. On the first batch of 90 SE's that TT put out they had defective tail rotor grub screws. After assembly I was going to break in the motor and just do some hovering with it. Just as it was getting light on the skids one of those grub scews broke sending a tail rotor blade right between my legs. While I was dodging flying carbon fiber the heli tipped over and broke the blades, bent the spindle, snapped the carbon boom & tail shaft, and stripped the tail gears. This was a brand new heli not even gotten off the ground.

I try and contact TT about it, and I don't even get the time of day much less any help on the replacements and it was a problem that they already knew they had. If the blade had hit me I promise you I wouldn't have let it go like that. As it was, it was a few parts. Not too long after that I got another new 90 SE kit and taped to the box inside was a pink notice with a little bag with new grub screws saying not to use the kit ones and replace with the ones in the bag. So, they knew they had the problem and they still didn't offer any help other than replacement screws. It still cost me another couple hundred bucks to get it fixed.

We just have to realize that in this hobby, we're on our own. Warranty is a joke on all this stuff.

rstacy,

I expected them to do exactly what they did. That does not mean I think it is the right thing. Say you bought some expensive new wax for your brand new shiny car, applied it exactly as the directions said to, and as you were wiping off the last coat, the wax along with the clear coat and paint peels nicely off of your car. Don't you believe that the wax company should have some responsibility for the damage caused by their product? I realize that Horizon doesn't have predator parts, but maybe they could have offered a set of blades or something like that to help offset the crash cost. I realize that isn't ever going to happen, but, as I said, that doesn't necessarily mean I think it is correct.

Carl did you ask for any relief for your parts?
When I have had issues with them they never offered without
me asking first and after I asked they complied with most of
my wishes
good luck and I hope it turns out OK for you

Ted,

Yes I did ask, but perhaps I was not direct enough. I do realize that they can't verify that the electronics were installed and used properly, and I cannot prove that the 8700 locked up before the crash, and not the other way around, so it becomes my word against theirs. I usually have a "you pay your money and roll the dice" philosophy when it comes to this great hobby, but the total disdain for my plight must have struck a nerve with me. Either that, or I need a couple more cups of coffee Oh well, on to looking for parts for the new stratus I have on backorder

Thanks for the suggestion. I have always tried to buy US for warranty reasons. Apparently, that is not such a big concern. Might try to contact the store and see if they can help.

I really piled a heli one time at my own dumbthumbs, broke EVERYTHING! Every servo (8311), gyro500t, the crystal was 15ft from heli, Horizon called me about 3 days later and asked what I hit, hehe. They were very helpful and fixed evrything and then the parts that were beyond repair they offered me at a discounted rate for new ones. I was impressed with their service. There are so many things that could go wrong and proof is difficult on both sides, they would be taken to the cleaners if they took everyone at their word. I think they did what they could, I am sorry to hear about your loss, I hate when stuff like that happens.
