i'm in the process of changing a piston. however to get the conrod on the shaft, i need to take out the liner, which seems to be absolutly stuck onto the crank case. how can i remove it without damaging the lining?

As Doug has pointed out a 250 F degree oven for 20 minutes should do it easily. If not then give it more time.
Of course, before doing this remove the backplate and gasket, the head and head shim and the carb and any pieces on the threaded crankshaft and the crankshaft. Make a small x with an exacto on the back face of the conrod so you will see which way it goes back in when re-assembling the engine.\

On re-assembly heat the crankcase and freeze the liner and then put it together. This expands the case and shrinks the liner.

Not a good idea when you fit the piston at the same time IMO.

Try removing the back plate and use a wooden dowell and push the bottom of the sleve up,remember to remove gaskets and any "o" rings you have if you heat the motor or they will be bye bye.

Perhaps I should have said "freeze the piston and conrod already fitted in the liner". This will ease the liner sliding into the case.
