I'm having a problem with motor overheating and barely getting off the ground. I have a brushless set up coming in the mail, but right now I'm running the stock motor with a electrofly 3s 1500ma (8C max). I don't know if the pack will be good enough for the new motor (justgofly400dh). Maybe the stocker is due for a retirement? I never let the battery get hot, but man that motor gets hot! I'm talking Dunkin Donuts coffee hot! I just don't know enough about electrics yet.

Sounds like your stock motor has had it. I would probably write it off before you burn something up.

As for your battery, it will do for hovering and some FF but I wouldn't ask it to do alot of hard flying. At 8C it will put out 12 amp constant. These Guns are pulling that much in hover and FF. Look at something like Apogee 1660's there rated at 10.5C which is 16.8 amps constant and burst up to 24 amps. Tantic's are pretty good too. if your not into alot of hard 3D then Thunder Power's do O-kay too.

I have some Kokam 1500's that I use when my Apogee's are down that are rated 8C. After hovering and agressive FF they are usually in the 140 degree range which is TOO hot, thus they won't last long.

Don't come off the throttle untill you see your GOD!

Before flying did you run the motor on one D cell in a glass of water until the cell is down? Doing this greatly help a brushed to perform.

I almost bought a kokum 3s1500 from the local hobby shop, but they were saying 8c would be plenty. The only micro they heard of was the hummingbird. Thanks for clearing things up for me. I'm scared of mixing water and electric

No problem, it is a recomended procedure to break in a motor, on 1.5V it's not like taking your shower while drying your hair with a hair dryer...
