As i'm building my R50 I wonder if there are any cheap/free mods to carry out to improve on the bird. I'd rather do them now than have to strip back down.

So anything that you would do from new?. I've got new fuel lines to go in as I hear the standard are not too good and a valved filling system to fit.

Cheers

Andy

Hey,

Hmmmm!, QuickUK Metal Rotorhead / Washout unit / Swashplate!

Nothing much else that will make a difference in my mind, maybe a fan for better cooling and also if you are using a governor/rev limiter the QUK fan has machined holes for the magnets.

After a lot of flying i found the plastic gear in the tail gearbox on the output shaft to have worn, i changed this for a QUK complete unit which includes the gear and a new shaft.

Check the clutch, they may have been revised but i doubt it! they break really easy! QUK do Heavy Duty clutch which will take more abuse.

Hope this helps?
If you need anything just give me a shout!
Cheers!

Upgrade to full metal head
If cost is an issue, an alternative to the Quick UK upgrades is the full Mavvrikk head from heliproz. Check it out here:

http://www4.mailordercentral.com/he...p?number=804390

I have this on my Rappy 50 except for the hub and the blade grips.

I would also consider upgrading to a push pull elevator setup and aluminum elevator system.

I also have the upgraded tail assembly from Mavvrikk as well. After almost 2 gallons through my heli, I have not noticed any slop.

Good luck.

Depends where you're at with your flying. If you're just getting under way leave it stock.

Make sure to do the canopy mod. This is where you drill out the canopy latch and put a screw in the gear that it will snap on to. Simple mod. Described in a dozen threads. It will save your ship.

In order of cheap but highly effective when you are looking at better performance. Good Main Blades and Faster paddles (MA whites, TT greens), Decent collective servo, Better tail blades, Governor, Pipe, Cyclic Servos, Metal.

Most of the bling for raptors is for show, not go. For bling, a metal washout should be high on the list as the plastic gets sloppy. Metal heads are nice if you want to crank on it. The carbon, metal tray, push pull... blah blah blah isn't necessary only nice.

I'll pay for it if it improves performance. But my 50 is for go not show:

50v2, Hyper, MPII, Mah Mains, 90mm tails, MA Whites, Maverikk Head, QUK Clutch. Hitec 6985 collective, 6965's Cyclic, 401/9254, Rev-Max.

Goes like a banshee. Wouldn't change a thing.

I will second MJWS mod with the canopy clip! I saw a friends heli's canopy go through the main blades while inverted and the the rest of the heli disintragate in mid air

- canopy clip (DO THIS)

- the sleeves that go in the bearing of all the control surface bellcranks are usually not quite the right length sand em carefully and you can get some slop out.

- also make the sleeves fit the screws (either epoxy them on carefully) or wrap something over the threads under there so they dont have any play.

- reverse your collective servo if possible.

- cut down the boom brace front screws so they don't rub on the fuel tank

- change the tank lines from what they gave you (it doens't last long).

- remove the sharp edges from around wher ethe tank goes in and, optionally, put some double stick foam in there to stop the tank wearing.

- size your ball links so there not so tight -- seems the A arms and the oval links are the worst offenders -- but do it carefully

thats all I can think of now.

Heh Rappy. Nice list spitfire.

Cheap is relative. I like to think in terms of how much performance increase for a dollar amount. Paddles are huge bang for the buck.

Bottom line: $10 dollar paddles (or do the dremel mod), $30 Hi Torque Analog Collective Servo, a few drops of CA to get the slop out of the sleeves and you are good to go. The rest is simply good set up and building practice.

The rest is just a slow but steady progression as you crash less and fly harder.

hey
another vote for the paddles: get the TT greenies...very stable...yet snappy cyclic response
i would also upgrade your collective and tail.....if you feel like splurging then go ahead and upgrade the cyclic.....but IMO the collective is a must
also check out these: i made them for about $2-4
http://www.runryder.com/t133122p1/?highlight=skid*

also you can increase your battery size and fly all day if you want....i won't post the link here (pm for details) that will let you fly all day and they cost about $20-30 to make

keep it stock for now...don't need all those blingy heads.....also.....lots of fuel would be nice

Thanks
~Will~
