I have an Evo 30 without DTDS and now would like to upgrade to DTDS for tail control during auto. Do I only change the main gear to DTDS type or do I have to change the counter gear as well. Please help. Thanks

Hi joyboy!

It looks like both the maingear and counter gear needs to be replaced.

You might consider the delrin gear upgrade while you are at it. The 87T main gear + lower gear + alu hub is packaged in #0412-168.

I bought the Delrin gears for mine, and I'm very happy with how smooth they turn.

IMO, the alum hub and *lower* delrin gear is a waste of $$$

all you need is the Delrin upper and black plastic lower gear

You need to replace the single molded gear with the split gear set. These are sold individually unless you get the delrin DTDS upgrade.

412215 Main Gear 87T
412216 2nd Gear 80T

These are the part numbers for the two standard gears for the DTDS on the Evo. If you want the Delrin Main Gear (as recommended by z11355), that would be:

412169 Main Gear 87T (Delrin) -replaces 412215

The entire Delrin/Machined Hub DTDS upgrade is #412168, but it's rather expensive. You'll find the Delrin gears are also expensive compared to the normal ones. The stock gears run about $6 each. The Delrin main gear is about $30, and the entire Delrin DTDS upgrade is about $90.

You really pay for bling upgrades!

Leif

P.S. No you don't need to change the counter-gear on the tail output shaft. There is a delrin replacement for that as well, but probably not worth the money and effort.

Im curious and since it is relevant to the topic I post it here.

What is the noise difference between the following DTDS setups:

1) Stock gears
2) Upper gear delrin, rest stock.
3) Upper and lower gear delrin, counter gear stock.
4) Upper, lower and counter gear delrin.

Anyone knows?

Thanks alot for the info guys, I really appreciate it. Just to make sure. So I do not need to replace the counter gear (the 17T gear with the tail pully)? I'm asking this because the standard lower gear is only 79T and the DTDS one is 80T. will it fit??

it fits fine.

no reason to replace the 17T counter gear unless you 'want' to.

I did but I dont see it as a win or lose.
