Did anyone see this thing on the discovery channel last night? It was a pretty good program about it. They say it is going to be so easy to fly, anyone can do it. Should be pretty interesting when some RC company makes a model of it and start selling it.

Yeah, it generally takes about 3 funerals before these things become obsolete.

Don't knock 'em til you've done your homework....

Despit all the nay-sayers, the Carter copter folks have a lot of experience and innovation going for them, plus some serious backers and aviation heavyweights on their side. Their approach to high-speed RW flight and retreating-blade stall is inspired. They're the closest thing to Rutan the heli world has.
They're not some homebuilder outfit (not that there's anything wrong with that!) like Revolution.
I bet we'll see them in limited production within 2-3 years.

yea I would love to get one and fly down the beach
but they will have to get a safe track record before my
butt gets in one

PS I used to have a hang glider back in the seventies
and I still think there are safer

I think I'll pass.... These guys have been screwing with this thing since the late 90's. Burt Rutan put together that space thingamajigger in way less time and was far more successful doing a job that was 100times more complicated. Call me when Burt comes up with something I can store in my garage, take off from my driveway, and replace my CAR with it. (did I mention it must cost under 10K?)

under 10K?

I just became an auto gyro guy. (well sort of) as far as i can tell the main things that keep auto gyros from becoming common place is they are limited in speed (curent record is something like 111 MPH if i remember corectly) and they are not as efficient as fixed wing. cruise speed of 50MPH is pretty common for and autogyro.

kinda freaky to watch, but that just adds to the charm of autos IMO

That Carter Copter, is one cool looking bird!

Burt Rutan was funded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen too.

SpaceShip One was, not his earlier exploits. He makes the average genius look like a rube!
