If it setup manually (with pushrod adjustment, not trim) correctly in rate mode, then it should be just a matter of switching to HH mode and it should work fine.

Make sure you haven't got anything mixing with the tail and that your revo is set to zero (0%) percent and center the trim with the tail setup correctly in rate mode. Use the manual adjustment of the pushrod to correct any tail swing and not the tail trim on the radio.
.

Cheers, Hayden.

The 401 must be initiated in HH.....FIRST. If you are not doing that, then the rest of the setup will not be right....

Read the directions that came with the gyro....

Juan is right. Make sure your servo/tail is working in the right direction then initialise the giro in HH mode. Once you have done this you can then adjust the rod length so it holds in normal mode.

Good thinking guy's, I forgot to mention that when you first turn on the radio (connect the flight pack) that the Gyro should be in HH mode, not rate mode. Once you have turned it on in HH mode and it has initalised (takes about 3 seconds), then you can set it to rate mode and setup the tail manually with the pushrod length.

Is your Gyro remote lead connected to channel #5?

If so, then the Gyro sensativity in the radio setup menu, needs to be set to above 50% gain(default setting is 50%) to be in HH mode.

Then set the gain in the radio above 50% gain, before connecting the flight pack. Then it will be in HH mode, when you connect the flight pack.
I usually start at about 70% or so. Then once it's initalised, you can set it to below 50% and it will be in rate mode.

Any value greater than 50% on your sensitivity channel setting will put the 401 into HH mode.

any value less than 50% on your sensitivity channel setting will put the 401 into Normal mode.

0% on the sensitivity = 100% gain in Normal mode.
25% on the sensitivity = 50% gain in Normal mode.

100% on the sensitivity = 100% gain in HH mode.
75% on the sensitivity = 50% gain in HH mode.

When you get to the 50% setting on your sensitivity channel, you are essentially at NO gain on the gyro, in effect you have dialed out the gyro.

My gyro setings are 75% in HH and 25% in Rate (which is 50% gain in each mode)

hmmm,Ok... I tried setting it in HH by turning the knob on the tx above 50, it normally sits right on 50. I didn't notice any changes at all...... The gyro setting in the programing on the tx is set at 63%. I have a SOLID tail in the air. Am I doing it right?

You don't use the knobs on top of the radio, they have nothing to do with the gyro gain. They are for your Throttle & Pitch curve in Normal flight mode and are usually left at the halfway point.

You adjust the gain sensativity setting in the TX programming menu where it says "Gyro" & has the percentage %. There is a different setting % for each flight mode (Norm, ST1, ST2 etc), so you can have each mode set different if needed.
.

Cheers, Hayden.
