I have been a thumb flier for 22 years. To me the thumb and finger method has to many moving parts. It seems that thumbs only is also more precise for myself.

Both
I pinch the left stick for minute collective movements, and thumb the right stick.

I love being different!

I pinch it. It's a lot easier to control when you're shaking -----------------

Fingers, fingers, fingers. I was taught to fly planes with the fingers and carried it over to helis. It allows you to fly smoother. I do recommend either a neck-strap or a tray.

I agree with Mopzilla.

With thumbs only I have periodic, random spastic inputs due to pre-crash anxiety. The spasms are much smaller and less frequent when pinching it. Now if I could just get my butt to un-clench....

sludge, my point exactly!

Also, with thumbs it is much easier to accidentally do something, and harder to make *small* stick movements. I can still reach all the switches and hold the TX (w/neck strap.)

you know what i just realized? I think i do a bit of both. When you say "pinch," do you mean thumb on back of stick, and finger on front? Well, the way I fly is thumbs on top, and then extra support of my finger on the front of the stick. So technically, I am doing thumbs on top, with a finger on the front of the stick. I don't "pinch" it. But I sort of do. I just noticed this a few minutes ago when holding the TX.

Does anybody fly this combo-type way too?

Thumb seems preety good for 3d (i don't fly like that yet though ) as you can easily move the sticks and fast as well. However i had my thumb slip off the cyclic once or twice before. Did not cause any problems as i was hovering at the time but lets see what will occur if that happens when you are doing inverted hovering 5 inches off the ground. Actually as long as both fingers don't slip you will be fine. Just throttle up

When you said " when you are doing inverted hovering 5 inches off the ground. Actually as long as both fingers don't slip you will be fine. Just throttle up" Dont you mean throttle down? If you do throttle up, By By to your heli!

He means throttle stick down, but throttle goes up and collective goes down. To be able to have 100% throttle at full bottom stick, you must have idle up 1 enabled and set up right.

I found that my thumbs seem to be relatively weak, and nervous, so they make accidental movements, so i have an extra support finger on the front of the stick.

But I do find that rudder control without changing the throttle is hard!

ncostes, I'd personally take the pinch/fly/scream/crash/bang head on the wall/go to hospital/get skull fixed/bang some more/etc/come back/wait for parts....
