I would like to get some feedback from anyone out there who has used a flybar stiffener. I did a little search and noticed that like everything else it is 50/50 for and against. I decided to try and make it myself using a carbon fiber arrow shaft, a little tap to thicken in two identical places on the flybar and sandwich it with the little rubber screw protectors from lowe's.

Results so far: It seems to be working great. I have an enya 35 with a weston tuned pipe and the little additional mass seems to have helped the whole heli. My main purpose was help with clumsiness hitting the flybar and bending them in transport,,and that little droop you get after a little. To my great suprise it has helped tremendously---no ff yet just hovering,,,quick climb-outs, side to side transitional movements. I just wanted to test- then land and check several times since I was experimenting.....

What I am looking for is additional feedback from anyone with experience with this or opinions on the setup.

Thanks

Charles

I've used flybar stiffeners on my R30 and I agree with your accessment. Less vibration, better tracking, etc. The only problem is after a minor crash that normally bends the flybar, the stiffeners will be trashed, i.e. added crash cost. You just have to determine if the extra cost is worth the benefits.

How about fitting a 4mm flybar. The "mod" takes 15 minutes, works great, lasts a long time.

Hey Jeff, can you give some more info on that? I have often wished the R30/50 had a 4mm flybar. Is this something that can be done yourself, or is it like an aftermarket kit?

I would think that it would be as simple as changing the bearings that support the flybar to 4mm ID bearings. Install the 4mm flybar/paddles. And go. Not a bad idea at all.

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

you'd have to drill out the inserts on the flybar levers too, not a tough task. You might have to drill out the seesaw too if the hole is not already 4mm. Both can be done easily on a drill press.

This is a tempting idea since I can't get 3mm V-paddles yet. Hmmmmmmm.
