I'm still making my way through my 1st gallon trying to learn to hover the thing so I still use the training gear. The 4 rods with waffle balls type.
Yesterday I'd done 2 flights hovering around without any problems. On the 3rd flight I'd just lifted off and was about 1ft from the ground when the training gear started to shake violently. It was all over in a second or so and the next thing I saw was one of the traing gear shafts wizzing by me about 20ft away!
I managed to get the heli down OK but the training gear was in pieces. The blades have a gough in them where Im sure they've struck the training gear.
The only reason I can think this happened is due to a resonance in the training gear causing them to break loose and strike the blades.
I dont understand how the previous flights were fine then all of a sudden this happens.
Anyone any ideas?

Wind speed a little different. Engine was running a little leaner,so a bit more head speed. Attach em with rubber bands. Don't use tie-raps. Shorten the rods a little bit to change the resonant freq.

My 12 year old nephew had his first crash with a LMH when one of those sticks fell off about 20ft up. It wasnt a pretty thing to see.
