Cheap,,,

I don't think the Hawk Pro is cheap at all, I think it's a very good deal, inexpensive maybe but not cheap, cheap to me is something like those foam planes.

Cheap...
Hmmm, yeah you're right. I'd agree with that. Inexpensive is a better word for it. Well I just got another email from Heli-World and they reaffirmed that the Hawk Sport is now out of stock and will be no more. The Hawk Pro will be here next week. We'll see if that's true. I hope so for my own sanity.

Ron...
Lund. No but I've thought about it. I was going to check with Heli-World tonight and see what my options are with them and go from there. Ron was going to be my next choice. Maybe I should have dealt with him in the first place. Nothing against Heli-World mind you, but maybe I should have looked around a little more too. We'll see how this turns out.

There also are a number of dealers inside & outside the USA - e.g. in Canada and the UK, who have Hawk Sports in stock.

Yup, I know of 2 kits here in Calgary. ALthough, they want about C$260 for them. That'd be just over U$200.

Got Money? Send it to me, I'm a Heli Addict.

Hi Don,

That doesn't sound too bad if you pick it up there and the Hobby Shop owner can help you set up the heli and get you off on the right foot so that you can loop without crashing because one lost too much rotor speed etc.

I just checked my visa for some gass purchases I made last month in the USA. They charged me 1.267 exchange. So at 160.00 US for the kit, plus $15.00 or so dollars for shipping into Canada, plus the Customs processing fee (anywhere from $5 to $35.00), that would be at least $180.00 USD. Converted into Canadian that is $228.00.

So in effect, you are paying your LHS $32.00 to help you set up and be succesful. That s a lot less then the cost of one crash. SO if he can save you from 1 crash or from a couple of hours of frustration that may be considered by some to be worth the money.

In my experience I have found that in general, when one is starting out and can get quality assistance from a LHS he will progress a lot more rapidly and with a lot less crashing and other frustrations. So I guess it all boils down to how valuable one sees this benefit.

Just my opinion on the benefits of an LHS.

Phil, there is also the question of how long it takes. Getting parts from the U.S. will take at least a week and usually closer to 2. My response was to a person in the U.S. looking for a Hawk Sport, as was mentioned, they are still available in Canada so I posted the prices that I knew about. If anyone is interested, they are at PM Hobby in Calgary (other shops may have them as well).

Although I've purchased complete kits from the U.S. most of my repair parts are purchased locally (where there is even more markup).

LHS...
oldfart,
My one biggest mistakes in life has been to move away from the best hobby shop in the world (as far as I was concerned). Action Hobby Shop in Memphis , TN.. The owner was an active modeler himself which made things even better. He stocked almost everything that was needed and if you needed something special he would order it for you. If he was still in business I could order from him now. Alas he has soId the shop to a chain store hobby shop establishment. I hate those shops that are run by people who just on a whim deside that a hobby shop would be a neat business to have and they turn out to know nothing about modeling at all, of any kind. I wish we had an Action Hobby Shop clone here. If I don't mind driving an hour and a half, there is one west of me that fellow modelers say is great, but I've not spent the time to go see the shop. I guess I should at some time. I guess that could be my new LDHS (Long Distance Hobby Shop).

muffler...
As far as we know now, YES it's comes with the cheapie muffler that the Hawk Sport came with. However, most say it's worthless as a muffler, but great for a noise maker!

If it is the same muffler as what comes with the Hawk Sport, then yes it is relatively noisy (compared to a good, double the price, after market unit) just like the other inexpensive mufflers that come with the other entry level mufflers on the market.

The big advantage it has over the others is that it is a solid one piece unit with a machined flange, consequently it does not leak all over and keep coming apart all the time.

Phil, do you know if I'd see much difference in power if I went to an aftermarket muffler? I've still got the original black one on and it does the job - I don't think it is that noisy but then there are large gassers flying at our field as well. Just wondering what I can do to boost the power on my littler OS 32 (you can never have enough power ).

Drop at Muscle pipe 2 in that bad boy
problem solved or just increase the nitro percentage if you are not using 30%. You will feel the difference

If haven't crash yet, you haven't flown yet

Availablity...
Looks like Century has dropped "Coming in March 2005" in their ad on their webpage. Hopfully this means we'll see some Hawk Pro's shipping soon.

Don,

Replacing the stock black unit with the larger CN3033 tuned muffler will give you a good deal more power, make the tuning of your engine even less critical and drop the relative noise level substantially.

David,

Actually, on the Hawk Pro, all you will need is a motor mount, as it allready has all the rest of the aluminum side frames and servo mounts.

I've not personnally run the tuned pipe set, but I've heard they do very well.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

I would highly recommend the Muscle pipe 2 quiet version, I went to that from a Century Tuned muffler the CN3033 and I noticed a good difference. It sounds way better and quieter too.
