oh fellow scale enthusiasts, bestow upon me your knowledge of scale flight dynamics and fuel economy. I have found an article at MRC about upgrading a fuel tank with an engine upgrade. (in my case .30 to .50). Would this be a worthy upgrade for a scale ship? How does the fuel consumption on scale ships compare to pod and boom fuel economy?
Maybe I should just get one of those low fuel sensors.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Fuel Economy
Well, I wish I could help but, All my Scale ships are Vario Benzin Mechanics. I like the Zenoa G230 Gas engine! I get about 15 minutes on the standard Fuel tank for the Benzin. Plus this engine likes load!! Scale ships add a few pounds to the Pod and Boom so If you want to stay with a .30 size ship I would recommend the .50 upgrade. You will like the power reserve. Good luck with your project! (You can always put a larger tank).

My Vario Bell 47G has 2, 10 Oz tanks that are inside the scale tanks. With the longer scale blades and OS .61 engine I've had the sucka timed at 24 mins before it ran out of fuel!

Still, makes me nervous when I can't see the fuel levels. I saw what is potentially a good idea the other day: Punch a hole at the top and bottom of the tank and run a fuel line between the 2 on the outside. That line can then be run outside the fuse somewhere visible and it should indicate the level in the tank.

When I upgraded myt raptor to a .50, I got a larger Sullivan tank. Definitely worth doing if you can fit it.

thanx guys...

dr tim,
i put the .50 in and was considering upgrading the tank too. it didnt look to hard, but then again, i have been suckered into home improvements that ran amuck because of those darn 'This Old House' reruns that made the job look easy.

edg,
kind of like a home made level? that is interesting...
i like the idea of functional scale tanks.
Sullivan, huh? I will definately check into it...
