I bought a used X-cell 30 and it came with an OS 40 fs which looks like a plank motor. It looks as to say in the old manual that you can install either an OS 32 or the 40 fs without changing the gear ratio. If you can use a 40 without changing gears, how about an OS 46 fxh?If not, then which one would I need or can I just change the pinion gear?Any help or part #'s would be greatly appreciated....

The rev range on a 30 and a 46 is basically the same, ratio changes shouldn't be needed to make it fly on the 46. I believe the X-Cell 30 is a 9:1 ratio, while the X-Cell Fury 50 is also available with 9:1. I reckon that the 46 will go well in that one on the standard gear ratio. You won't hit a high RPM red line like you would fitting a monster engine to a 60. Just watch the throttle curve as the engine will have so much power on the standard length blades that it will most likely overspeed at full throttle.

Hope this helps.

Chris

Standard is 550 for a 30-class engine; before I dumped all my radio gear I was running wide-chord 560s on mine. Providing the carburetor cooperates, you should be able to run up to 570s for 3F, or 600s if you don't plan to spank it.

Mine is heavy, and I'm going to stretch the boom and try some skinny (narrow-chord) 600s; hope that 32 will turn them. I do NOT want to go to a bigger engine. This project has been put on the back burner while I re-acquire sufficient receivers, servos, etc.

But see if you can get hold of a set of those glass 570s that come in some Sceadu kits to try. They are pretty decent blades, and are not expensive. You'll need some 1mm grip shims, as the Sceadu uses 12mm grip spacing.

Oh by the way , how old is your X-cell?I have the old bent frames and I'm upgrading to the stacked frame set. If you get a chance you think you could e-mail me some canopy-off/on pictures so I can get some ideas? Thanks again!!! (Polo30@ameritech.net)

Safe-Cracker, the 9 to 1 ratio of the 30 will work fine with the 46, 9 to 1 was used on everything in the X-cell line until they started the Pro series. If you go with a 46 or 50, the blades will be to short to absorb that much power. You will have to go to 600mm blades. The 30 used a 25 inch boom, to run 600s you will have to go to the boom length used on the 46 X-cells, 27 inches. Right now I'm using an older graphite boom off an X-cell 60 cut down to 28 inches on my 30/46, but I'm using wide chord 620 V-blades on it. If I have to rebuild it again, I'll probably go to a 29 inch boom and narrow chord blades. Funny, the original X-cell 60 used a 30 inch boom, now we are making the 46s and 50s almost as long.
