Anyone know whether the new open tail gear box will fit a Pro2K? I'm assuming you would use the Pro2K sliders etc, but is there any other reason this would not work.

Anyone done this yet on a Pro2K?

Thanks,

Spitz

Doing it right now. No problem at all. Make an excellent model even better.

Get the 3D box to preserve the left side tr output you now have and your current pitch slider arrangement, or get the FAI box the the Tempest slider kit. For the latter case, flip the tr servo mount to the other side of the model's frames. Works perfectly. Order another t/r pushrod when you get the kit; you'll need it. The box sticks out about 10mm further out back.

Just flew my open box for the first time yesterday. I put one on my Extreme. It's awesome. Seems smoother and less tail kick in some maneuvers.

You can't go wrong with the open box.

So, apart from the tail pushrod kit, there's nothing else to worry about?
Can't wait now to get them.

Thanks,

Now hold on just a second. You have to buy another tail pushrod kit to do this right? Ok, well what about the people that have installed the FAI slider on their Extremes keeping it on the same side as the stock Extreme slider? Will this thing not work at all? Or am I missing something? If the pushrod kit is needed to do this mod, would it not make sense to include it IN the kit? Considering that NOT ONE of the people ordering this thing will have had it before. I.E. meaning EVERYONE will need the pushrod.

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

Point of clarification:

If you use the 3D box with a CNC slider, then you need to order the pitch arm that comes standard with the FAI tail box. The part number is 123-85.

Spitz, this would apply to you if you keep the original Pro tail slider on the original left side. You can rebuild the original Pro slider as a mirror image for the right side of the model, but you have to press some parts apart to do so. A little bit of a pain to do, but do-able; Cliff Hiatt did this when he was testing the tail on the right side of the model.

Thanks to David Harkey for reminding me to remind you to get the other pitch arm.

I still think the pushrod should be included in the kit.

Dr.Ben & Dave, yes thanks. Now I understand.
I also think the pushrod kit should be shipped as part of the kit.

Thanks for all the comments, this is a very useful thread.

Spitz.

Go read the "special note" on the Minature Aircraft website regarding the pushrod.

The part number you want for the pro is 123-74 and you will need the pushrod kit because its 10mm longer than the setup that you have now. You will use your slider assym from the pro and mount onthe left side for FAI setup. I'm modifying one right now. Looks nice, the gears are molded because I can see the ejector pin marks on them.

extended tail rotor pushrod
If you JB Welded your current pushrod,
You can heat it up, take apart, clean and then re-glue to meet the additional 10mm length requirement.
