I have been trying to remove, on my venture 32, the pin that hold the tail rotor pulley on the shaft. I have destroyed a couple of drill bits but haven't made a dent in that pin. How do I go about removing it with out destroying the pulley?

What I do to take apart the pulley is, take off the tail case side opposite of the tail blades and push the bearing out of the tail case still connected so that it is just resting on the tail shaft. I do this so you will not put any pressure on the bearing when you start to beat the tail pully Next find one of your hex drivers that fits the hole and just put some real pressure on it and it will push out enough for you to get some pliers on it and yank it out. hope this helps, Kick ass you are a longbow test pilot, I am a Longbow mech.

The pin for the tail rotor pulley is a roll pin and can be easily pushed out with either a hex driver or punch as Bohica described. I would also add a recommendation that you take all bearings off the tail rotor output shaft prior to attempting removal of the pin. Also, between the pulley and bearing and on the opposite side of the pulley as well, there may be one or two very thin shim washers. Be careful not to lose them and be sure to replace them from where they were removed. These washers prevent side play in the pulley. Additionally, while you have that tail case apart, grease those bearings. Because of the nature of the beast, the tail rotor doesn't get much attention until it gets yours, so take the opportunity to do some PM on it.

Ok but exactly how do I get that roll pin off? IF I understand you correct pull it off the shaft first then push it out, right?
It is a real bear. I have tried a hex, a punch, and a drill bit, broke my bit twice. Fresh out of dynamite or I would use that. I would like to save the pulley if I can do it with out destroying the hole for the roll pin in the process.
