Hi all,

So can anyone help me make up my mind on what combat wing to get... Its got to be fast, brushless and lipo..

So far its down to :-
1. A Zagi Tazz with their brushless motor from Trick Rc

or 2. A Combat wing mini XE with a Aveox 2713/4 on 3s lipo.

The combat wing works out at a lot more $$$ though, anyone have any experence of either or any better setups ?

Cheers
Tris

Fast_lad has a zagi with brushless, I use the bigger combat wing with averox brushless and it is way faster. I run the 8 cell nicad on it but I did try the lipos, just has a problem with balancing it.

I went with the Mega 16/15/3 motor and Castle Creations PHX 45 amp ESC. I'm starting with a 1800 NIMH battery but plan on going to a 4100 mah Lithium!!!! Yahoo!!!

If you go with Combat Wings...go with one of their kits...you save a good amount of money that way.

Tom

The XE2 Combat wing is the one to go for in my opinion!.
Faster and more agile than the Zagi, Glides forever!.
I'm using a mega 16/15/4 APC 6X4E prop.
The Thunder Power 2100 lipo fits exactly into the pre cut battery compartment.
I put an extra 5mm carbon rod along each trailing edge.
I just love it!

JaneK,
I'd agree that the 10C LiPo's would quickly go bye bye with a 3-turn brushless and decent prop but the newer 20C LiPo's can handle 38amp or more constant.

Tom

Even a 10C 3800mah 3s2p can handle 38A constant and a 45A burst which is more than enough for a 3 turn motor and a 5x5 or even greater prop. Pulling that kind of current through a 20C LiPo would only make it happy

LiPo's sure are expensive but even a 20% loss on a ~4000mah battery leaves you with a 3200mah capacity battery at half the weight of a NiMH (at the same capacity). For performance, you still can't beat that.

The thread was started with a question regarding the best brushless motor WITH LiPo set-up for a wing. Using a high discharge LiPo is going to give more speed and power then a similar sized NiMH and I don't believe you'll be abusing the battery if the right LiPo is used. For the Combat Wing, the 3 turn brushless motor is what Weston (the developer and owner of Combat Wings) recommends. Of course there are other excellent choices and a brushless motor powered by a NiCD or NiMH will certainly also be a very fast machine.

Either way you can't go wrong but for the fasted and longest flying set-up....LiPo's are the way to go but at a greater expense $$$$$

Kind regards,
Tom
