Hi, Being in Edmonton, winter has set in and we've moved indoors. We don't use a gym, but a hanger that the local Air Cadets train in, they only use it a few nights a week and rent it out the others. The RC hobby has jumped all over this and at the moment, RC cars use it for racing on Wednesdays, Electric Airplains and a few odd helis on Thursdays and our local heli club just secured every second sunday for a heli only indoor night. (we still allow a few planks cause they are good to us on plank night)

Hangers have pretty high celings.

What you need to do is approach the property manager and request to book it and be prepared to demonstrate what you will be doing. Use a micro for this, not a gasser! LOL!

Maybe look for some pictures, clips and stories of other clubs to show that it is a common hobby and we are respectful, safety minded people.

You will have to do some paperwork to apply for club status in order to have AMA apply and you must enforce an AMA only rule (Here in Canada it's MAAC, Same difference)

With this you can also use the insurance to dispell a building owners fear of damage, that helps a lot. You can apply to the AMA for a information package regarding finding and keeping flying fields, This is a good package and gives many suggestions and real world examples of what works and what doesn't. Apply and you get it free.

Indoor flying is a blast, hope you get it up and running and have a lot of fun!

We have a neighborhood rec center that has a indoor gym but every time i go, people are playing. It would be nice though cause its very high ceilings and 2 full size courts. You think it would be ok to show up and just start flying around or you think i need to ask at the front desk? I was thinking about flying in the front door and start buzzing around while they are playing badminton.

STUPID TREE!!!

Go look for the video of the girl on the BMX, at the BMX track, when these idiots with no right to be there start screwing with there RC Truck and hit her.

Now, in order to not be like them you will never walk onto a badmonton court and fire up a heli, electric or not.

What you have to do is rent the gym if it is availiable to rent. If it isn't some church hall where guy's play floor hockey will be availiable. pay a night's rent and fly.

It's cheaper to do this as a club so more of you are chipping in and it's a lot more fun with more guy's there.

Schools
The schools by us are done by permit. As long as you do it using the AMA insurance, they are more than happy to let you have the place.

I belong to a plank club that does indoor funfly's at least once a month year round, twice a month in the winter.

Everything goes in the Gym, rubber band, free flight, shockflyers, micro helis...

Go to the school and ask about securing the gym for a specific night then you don't have to worry about everyone else.
