Dear PayPal User

Today we had some trouble with one of our computer systems. While the trouble appears to be minor, we are not taking any chances. We decided to take the troubled system offline and replace it with a new system. Unfortunately this caused us to lose some member data. Please follow the link below and log into your account to make sure your information is not affected. Account balances have not been affected.

Because of the inconvenience this causes we are giving all users that repair their missing data their next two incoming transfers for free! You will pay no fees for your next two incoming transfers*.

Thank you for using PayPal!

* - If fees would normally apply, you will not pay anything for the next two incoming transfers you receive.

Paypal will never ask for any of your information and they will not contact you when they have a system go down.It sounds like a scam to me also.

It's a scam. I bet the link as it existed in your email will take you to somewhere other than PayPal. You should display the complete header than forward it to spoof@paypal.com .

An organization the size of paypal is going to use some level of RAID redundancy on the disk drives as well as tape backup and probably also offsite backup. They already know everything they need to about you. definatly a scam.

if emails give you a link to click, type it in yourself rather than click it. the one they provide probably goes to paypai.com (uppercase i = an L = II) or something else tricky like that.

back after a few years off.

Also, a quick tip-off is " Dear PayPal User"

If/when they send you an email it has your first and last name.
