Well it looks like we will be crashing more often than ever.

Some guiness at Futaba seems to think it's a good idea to partner with, can you believe this, Microsoft.

Read it and weep here:

http://www.flyrc.com/

looks like we now have to contend with the blue screen of death as a possiable hazzard when flying.

Just wait until you have to start rebooting in flight or have servo driver conflicts.....

This is not good news.

kind of cool
"Music can be played (Windows Media), and voice commands can be assigned to switches, e.g., “flaps up”

So if you had a co-pilot installed, you could scream "HELP" or "word of preference", and it would turn it on for you

It would be cool to feedback right to the trans using wi/fi
or bring video back from the aircraft networking for the WinCE would be cool to have all that go to a laptop maybe add sensors for heat RPM and GPS

*cough*
Dual internal processors: Windows CE for all input, programming and audio-visual functions; Futaba Custom Processor handles all flying functions
not really. besides, I have never had my ipaq (winCE device) crash on me, just dont try to install pocket quake on it and you should be good to go.

seems pretty cool, about time they adopted a non-proprietary standard form of model storage.

back after a few years off.

Hasn't this been discussed enough?

Windows will operate the interface. Futaba's software will operate the actual functions.

From what I understand, Windows CE is only going to be running the display.

So if Windows CE crashes, you will only lose your display and the radio will continue to operate and you will still have complete control of the Heli.

Ok, Fair enough, I wouldn't refer to Microsoft as Non-Propriatary though, they are the kings of closed source and standards breaking to monoplise the marketplace.

your right though, beaten to death.

Don't like Microsoft?

Load Linux, Unix, OS X, or a SUN product on your computer and quit bitchin.

Don't like and MS product. Don't buy it.

And I assume Linux would be a better choice of an OS on the radio? Any software written correctly should not be much of a problem and I am sure that Futaba has ensured that this radio is not crash prone?

never mind if they program it with Microcrap

It wont be long before some one hacks the box/radio and installs

LINUX

then your will be able to program it once and reboot it once evey 100 years.

It may take you 10 years to get it programmed the way that you like it.

Look on the bright side - if it does include windows the transmitter will be much simpler to operate ......

It will only need 3 buttons

Cheers,

True, it won't be long.

BDIS, yes, Linux would be a better choice for futaba for one simple reason: Profit.

Consider that in ALL cases, Linux requires a fraction of the system resources to perform any given typical function. Futuba would save big on CPU and Memory for the radio by using a less bloated OS.

I know CE is much smaller a footprint than the destop versions but in all reality, Linux is the king of imbedded devices.

This is one of the things I love about this place. You get to read all kinds of stuff from people that have not the slightest clue what they are talking about.
Quoted for truth.

You know, I don't think WinCE even has a BSOD.
