I purchased a Quick Learner 30 from a fellow last spring. The transaction went well until I received the heli. The exterior of the box seemed OK without any visable damage. However, when I opened the package, the canopy and canopy mount were broken. There were also some minor parts missing such as the servo mounting plates. I contacted the person from whom I purchased the heli, and he said no problem, I had the package insured with UPS. Just file a claim and everything will be OK. I did file such a claim with UPS and it was denied. The UPS inspector indicated that the heli was not properly packaged and it was the shippers fault. To make a long story shorter, both the shipping party and UPS refuse to make the damage good. Both point the finger at each other and I end up the looser. This has gone on now for more the six months and I'm sure that I will never get this resolved. The only recourse I have would be to go to small claims court and file a claim against the party who sold me the heli. I'm not going to do that and I'm not going to defame the person who sold me the heli. I really can't tell who is at fault here. However, I have been told by several others that it is common practice for UPS to reject claims on the basis of packaging. As I said, the heli looked packaged well to me and there was no visable damage on the outside of the package. I have no idea why it was broken, but it was. There isn't much I can do about the person that sold me the heli, except let him know how disappointed I am that neither party will step up to the plate and pay for the damage. However, I can do something about UPS. I have used them for shipping as long as I can remember. This is the first and only time I have ever filed a claim and it was rejected. This has resulted in my not using them as a shipper any longer. I now use Fed-Ex or DHL as my shipping company. They may not be any better, but I will keep it this way untill I know different. I'm sure that everyone involved here probably had good intentions but I still ended up losing because of broken parts. It is just part of the risk that one runs when you buy from a private party. Most of my purchases from private parties have gone well. This is the first time I have been left holding the bag. Well, I got my fustration out by filing this post, so it is time to get back to flying and having fun. Best wishes and good flying to all.

Hey NuBee,

If there was no damage to the outside of the packaging, then the canopy was most likely damaged either from insufficient padding inside the package or it was prior to shipping. My company ships and receives dozens of packages every day with all carriers and I've never seen the contents of a package be damaged in shipment without any damage to the box as long as it was adequately packaged.

I've also seen many smashed boxes that have undamaged contents that were protected properly.

Do you have any pictures of the packaging? How did you pay for the heli? If it was PayPal, you might check with them about the possibility of a claim against the shipper. It'd be worth checking in to.

Keith,

You are right about receving packages that were crushed and the contents were still OK. I was really surprised that the canopy and mount were damaged. The shipper used a combination of foam, bubble wrap and newspaper packing. The canopy was filled with crumpled newspaper to support it. I have seen many other packages that were not protected as well that did not receive any internal damage. The whole thing is just a frustrating mess. I paid with a money order so there is only the shipper and shipping company involved. According to UPS they have no involvement with me because their shipping contract was with the seller. However, I was the one who had to initiate the claim as the receiving party. I'm tired of thinking about it. I only made this post to get out my frustration and to raise awareness for others of buyer beware! Let's face it, I got screwed by the seller, UPS or both.

That really sucks! Was the canopy mounted on the heli when shipped? That wouldn't be a real good idea having something heavy and solid (like the frame) securely attached to the more fragile canopy. I hope nobody else gets screwed by the same guy.

Not sure how the whole UPS claim system works, but I'd still have to agree with them that if the package wasn't damaged, it isn't their fault.

Anyway, I know you've been flying the Learner, so I guess the canopy is still functional, which is good. I think you also have a spare now which I'd save until you've gotten really comfortable flying the thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of the new Quick Fighter heli's once the new US dealer gets up and going. I might get one of those canopies for my Quick 46 Pro ... looks a lot like a Sceadu.

Keith,

Yes, the canopy was mounted on the frame. The canopy mount on the right side was broken off and the canopy was cracked and broken. Since, I couldn't get the seller or UPS to do anything, I repaired the canopy with fibre glass and ordered new parts to replace broken and missing parts. The canopy is still quite cracked but it is functional now with repairs. For one thing, I paid too much for this heli. It was suposed to be a new upgraded Learner that had never been flown and I paid almost as much as if it were from the retailer. You are correct about it being the heli that I have been flying for the last several months and I do like it very much. That is why I bought a second one from Fran. The one I got from Fran was a heck of a good deal and I am quite happy with that transaction.

Happy Holidays and good flying.
