Watch out for those stock R50 header tanks...plastic is quite thin!!

I had my glowplug extension screwed with the boom support screw (right beneath the header tank). I never thought this would cause a HUGE problem...anyway, after 8 or 10 gallons with my Rappy, vibrations made a hole in the header tank with the screw and started dripping fuel all the way to the engine...to make this story short, the fuel caught fire and then the header tank blew...was able to land with the engine still running but my cannopy, frame, main gear, belt, tail servo (rear mount) and g401 wires are all scorched!!!

I consider myself very lucky because there were about 3 people watching and as soon as it caught fire in midair, someone ran for a car extiguisher and it was put out as soon as it landed......(by the way...I don't know how I landed the thing because I was EXTREMELY NERVOUS when I saw the small ball of fire from the header tank)

Are aftermarket header tanks better or did I make a mistake setting my extension in that specific place?

Here's a picture of the extension set beneath the tank:

why did you run the glow adaptor that way
instead of just attaching it to the lower engine
mount screw like 99% of other people do?

I don't have those long hotshots...mine is a small hobbico starter...this position was the best I could think off so the fuel line wouldn't get in the way...stupid move huh?

by attaching to the engine mount, the remote
starter sticks out the side of the machine, so
you do not need a long hotshot kind of thing.

also, you only need the one wire going to the
plug.

glad you were able to save the machine!

Thanks...I'll set the extension at the engine mount....

I didn't really save the machine although main rotor and boom are intact, I still have to change frames, main gear, belt and fix wires for tail servo and gyro....not too bad anyway
