What holds the bearings in the tail rotor grips? I had a bearing come apart. Nothing left except inside part of bearing on the screw. Nothing in the grip. BJ

Bearings on tail
WLJ,

First thing, scrap the factory supplied bearings. They are junk. You can get some high quality ones from Modefos or Boca Bearings in Florida. Look inside tail grip and you should see a lip that captures the bearing. If the lip is gone you will need to replace the grip.

And while you at it, if you haven't already, replace the tail output shaft bearings. All 4 bearings are the same size. You can find the size listed in the manual that came with the heli.

I have replaced the bearings in the tail boom, tail rotor output shaft, tail rotor grips and main rotor grips. I also upgraded all the tail rotor gears to the new blue bevels. The blue bevel tail rotor gear came with a hardened round output shaft. I used to have a bad vibration in the tail until I did the upgrade. Now the tail section is very smooth.

Hope this helps

And there's me thinking I'm the only one upgrading the tail bearings. The stock ones are junk for sure. Also upgraded the mainshaft bearings as well as the stock are average.

The main shafts are the only ones that I haven't changed yet, but think I should soon.

Dave, did you oil the main bearings very often? I have close to 60 hours on mine and they seem to be O.K. and I wonder if it is cause I am a freak about oiling my bearings at least every week.

I will be changing mine out and wanted to see if you have to totally take the main frame apart? I was thinking about taking out what I could, but I have a battery tray glued in front so didn't want to have to redo everything. I was thinkin' she could be pryed open, you know!

Thanks Dave!

Grip bearings
Thanks G Dog, Believe it or not, I had two Shoguns at work. The one I posted about was on its test flight during lunch. Just got it from Wes NIB last week. I took the older one out after work. Flew around a little, landed, spooled up to hover, threw a grip bearing on that one also. I was really lucky as both times bearing came apart while close to the ground. Upgrades are on the way for all three Shoguns( third one still NIB) Billy J. (WLJ)
