Well I can tell you that the Shogun's canopy is certainly a vacuum formed part and made from almost exactly the same sort of plastic in which we buy our fruit. The (much larger) vacuum formed fruit tray is so cheap that they can afford to virtually give them away with the product.

When you buy a replacement Shogun canopy, it comes in three pieces of vacuum formed plastic that you have to stick together (they don't even do this for you) and the cost is about 10% of the original retail price of the whole, fully assembled helicopter.

Sorry, but in my opinion this is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive and I don't appreciate finding out that a part for this 'cheap' helicopter' is so expensive after I have bought the model.

My reason for starting this thread was to show people that if they don't want to pay these prices, they don't have to - they can make the parts themselves.

Steamer, I agree, the price for these parts is high. Your suggestions will no doubt get a "true" hobbiest to thinking. For most others, they will just go buy a new canopy. As a side note: I was involved in a Kawasaki motorcycle dealership in the 1970's. The 900 Kaw was THE hot thing to have. We sold all the big bikes at little ( $200-300) to no profit, in the hopes that the people would come back in the store, and buy accessories. Point being: Some folks survive on the replacement parts, rather than the initial purchase itself.
